"I have owned 2 pairs of these boots. I really liked the design, they were really easy to get on and off.
Durability on the other hand is not good. Soles became detatched from the first pair within a week of purchase. I was away on a trip and was able to return them right away where I purchased them
Second pair has made it 2 years but the soles have come off again. I called Orvis customer service and they said I would have to return them to where I purchased them.
Retailer is not real close to my home so I am either gonna have to make a long trek to see what they can do or try a new boot."

Short Life,

"I bought these with a pair of Pro Guide waders. I broke the zipper pull on one of the first uses. The zippers tend to stick and I used my forceps to pull the zipper. I wrote that off as bad judgment but it broke easily. The zippers are difficult to pull in cold weather. I found pulling them up and down a few times before you put the boot on helps.
The studs wore quickly and some were lost. Yesterday, the felt came off one off the boots. From past experience, trying to fix felts is not worth the effort. These boots were not put away wet and were cared for carefully. I only fish about once per week so they did not take much of a beating.
The upper part of the boot is in great shape (with the exception of the zipper). The boot provides great ankle support.
Overall, I expect much more life and quality from an Orivs product. The Pro Guide waders have held up great."

Not My Favorite Purchase,
February 1, 2010
By:

"I bought my Easy-on Battenkill Brogues (felt sole, studded) a couple of seasons ago, and had high expectations (being Orvis and all!) However, these boots under-performed big time....
I do the majority of my fishing in WI, and the terrain is low-impact compared to most. The sole on one of the boots started separating at the toe after only 5-6 times out. By the end of that summer, the felt was a third of the way off. I could push the felt back onto the studs, but it started curling when it dried.
I've tried to get the most out of them while I could, but the sole came off completely after my first time out this year. I'm done with them!
Similar to others who bought these boots, I too had issue with the sizing, but I guess that comes with the territory. I like the look of the boot, and the side zipper is slick (when it's not sticking!) I'm going to give the Simms Rivershed a try this time around, as I've heard good things."

"I loved everything about these boots except the sole failing within 2 seasons! The support is great, the easy on and off zipper is great, but the soles need some new designing. I fish a lot but it is disapointing when you cannot keep your soles in the water."

Good boot until failure,
April 18, 2009
By:

"I have had these boots for a season and a half. They perform nicely with the zipper. Over the last two months, the stitching on the bottom of the boots has failed. The felt and the rubber it was attached to seperated from the boot itself. I used boot glue this week to get a little more use out of them, but after a one hour long trip to a local river, the bottoms are starting to come off again. I would love to buy another pair but I would need them to last longer."

Good value good boot Studs fall off,
February 14, 2009
By:
7xfly
"My wife says I fish too much because of this I feel I can give the boots a good review. I love these boots comfortable, priced right and available in size 15 WOW. The zippers are a great advantage in determining the tighness of fit ,consistent everytime you put them on. My boots are felt soles with studs. A significant issue that prevails is the studs fall off, I had this pair only 4 months and I'm missing over 70 % of the studs ! I'm confident Orvis will correct this problem with their manufactuer. It would great to get this pair replaced. The most important thing Orvis could do at this time is to recognize the issue at hand and reassure customers that the stud loss issue is corrected. As you all know the studs on our wading boots are almost as important as the backs on a womans diamond stud earings!"

good value,
January 27, 2009
By:
Chromedomefrom Woodridge, NY
"I felt that after 2 years of use, I could finally write an objective review. I mostly fish for steelhead all winter starting form September all the way thru May. The boots have held up well. They are true to their design. I especially like the zipper function. It makes getting into the boot without compacting all the socks and neoprene into the toe box of the boot. The boots held up well in the two years and look relatively new. The felt has held up well. The studs have held up reasonably well. There is some rounding but that is to be expected because I fish a rocky bottom. They also have good grip in muddy areas of the river. There are only a couple of things that I would recommend as impovements. The first is that I would make the boot more true to size. I normally wear a size 10 shoe, but I had to move up to a size 12 boot just to accomidate a wool sock for winter fishing. The second is that I wished these boots had a rubber sole similar to the Simms aquastealth boots with studs. The snow tends to ball up under these boots and makes the treck back to the car a difficult one. I am seriously thinking of purchasing a pair of Simms boots just for this reason. I will save these boots for non winter fishing."

Great Boot,
November 10, 2008
By:
Thomfrom Buffalo
"Got this boot late spring this year. Used them the entire balance of the trout season and didn't retire them until I absolutely had to for Steelhead season.
The boot is very comfortable and the lacing system makes them easy to get on. Then, when old guys like me come in from the stream and are stiff as a board, that zipper on the side makes them easy to get off.
You definitely want to use your gravel guards with this boot and when you snug them on, cover the zipper. If you do, no sand comes through the zipper and you have a great, comfortalble, easy to use boot. That zipper on the side was a great idea."

Sturdy, comfortable boots,
October 16, 2008

"I recently bought these and absolutely love them. They provide a sturdy, comfortable base, with very good grip. The side zippers are a true life saver. I've only had them a couple of weeks so I can't comment on durability, but they seem like a high quality build so far. My only gripe is the price, but I really couldn't find anything better in the price range."

Caught this 22 inch brown trout yesterday in my Orvis boots!
"I'm in my second season with these zip-ups, and they're the greatest. I have a home right on the river in NW Colorado, and the boots are in my garage right now with a shoe dryer getting them ready for tomorrow. I use them virtually every day and they've yet to let me down. Plus they come in my size, a fifteen! Tomorrow I'll put on my waders and my dry boots and head back out to the river for some more fun. Best thing I've ever bought from Orvis!"

Lasted only one year,
August 26, 2008

"I work as a fisheries biologist in California and also river fish for salmon and steelhead about 10 to 15 times a season. I usually purchase the Henry's Fork wading boots and have typically gotten 3 to 4 field seasons out of these boots before they fall apart. Keep in mind I probably put more use on wading gear in a year than most fisherman do in several seasons. Last year I purchased the Battenkill Brogues and they've completely failed in less than a year - lost studs rather quickly and the felt soles completely separated from the boots, which have been Aqua-sealed back on. The felt on the toe region of the boot is completely worn away too. These boots may be OK for the casual fisherman, but they're not built for daily use, especially if you tend to cover much distance walking the river bed."

"After only 1 use, several studs came off the right boot. Exchanged them for a new pair, wore them once and again studs came off.
Although very comfortable, very dissappointed and surprised studs continue to come off.especially from an Orvis brand boot..
No matter how comfortable, performance is comprimised without studs."

Flawed Genius,
July 23, 2008

"I bought these boots along with a pair of Tailwaters XT waders back in April '08. I chose the plain felt soles & added screw-in studs myself to offer better grip over a wider range of surfaces - including the dreaded wet grass! The felt soles do seem to absorb quite a bit of water (adding to the weight) and take quite some time to dry out. The boots have a pretty rigid build & I appreciate the ankle support that this provides on rocky stream beds. Whilst the side zips definitely make getting the boots on & off much easier, I always have to slacken off/re-tie the laces. My main concern is that the zip tags are not fully covered by the velcro flaps & they have started to wear away the gravel guard material on my waders (how long before holes appear?) - This is why I have scored the boots so lowly - If Orvis made the velcro tabs bigger to solve this problem, then I would add a couple of stars"

Boots that do work,
May 15, 2008

"These boots the real deal, the easy access zipper allows for an easy on and off. They are extremely easy to clean and drain. They fit comfortably unlike other boots I’ve worn that have had the annoying digging feeling in the ankle that could cramp any good time on the river."
