The only thing that could have been better on this trip was the weather but even Orvis can’t master that.

Arizona quail hunt - Jan 2018
PostedFebruary 17, 2018
Our 1st trip west of the Big Muddy River looking to bag some Arizona Quail. Weather wasn’t the best (dry & hot) but accomadations, dogs & scenery were all spectacular. This is one place that will go on the “do again” list. So many places to hunt, so little time.

QUAIL HUNTING THE OLD WEST
PostedJanuary 16, 2018
Every winter southern Arizona beckons with the wide open spaces of the Coronado, the charm of Patagonia, the friendly faces at the Stage Stop Inn and time afield with Dave Brown. Days in the field are precious and no one knows this more intimately than Dave Brown. Those days spent following his amazing dogs, covering a brace of them on point and then, and only then....the flush! That flush which is always a mix of adrenaline, confusion, frequently frustration and occasionally success. The wild quail are all here; the Mearns, the Gambles and the blues. Dave's pointers and Brittanies are here also, as well as his exceptional guides which over a field lunch will become your "new" old friends.
Wild birds are never easy and Mearns quail in particular were never meant to be east but should you dream of such things they are to be found in this small corner of the old west. So my friends it's all here and Dave Brown will gladly guide you through it and you will forever be thankful that he did!

an experience you can't miss in your life

My girlfriend and I decided to run to Patagonia for our first experience on a bird we'd never seen, Mearns quail. I booked with Dave since I had great experiences flyfishing on the Bow with him. our experience in AZ was wonderful. from the town of Patagonia to the drives and hunting in the nearby mountains, it is just beautiful. The biggest pleasure was being with the guides and the dogs. this can be tougher country to hunt and the pointers were wonderful. these aren't easy birds to shoot either and to have pointers bust their butts then stay while you get into position was a setup for success. all 5 star and the dogs get an additional star!! we are planning our next trip the day after we left!
