Incredible trip with Captain David Edens

I booked a trip with Captain David Edens on July 20th, 2017. I have fly fished for trout and stripers; but never salt water and never reds. I lined the first fish and hit the 2nd one on the nose. Captain David was patient with me and told me I have to cast further away from the fish. On the third chance, I hooked up and what a rush! I highly recommend Captain David. He knows how to put you on the fish and can help you learn what it takes to "hunt" one down. I'll be making this trip again!

Coming into St Simons for a business trip I wanted an opportunity to get some Golden Isles Redfish on Fly. Capt Dave and I discussed available times and tides and settled on a time.
I picked up my first fly rod only two and a half months before this trip. Although I worked hard on my casting and used the tips from Capt Daves web site to prepare for the trip I had a little self doubt as we came off plane and worked our way onto the first flat. Bait was popping and Dave quickly had me comfortable making some presentations and gave me a few opportunities to build my confidence. Within 20 minutes we got this beauty to eat.
The tide was challenging and the water stained. Although we had to hunt hard, Dave put me on several opportunities for reds throughout the morning. "Buck fever" got to me a few of those times... but what a great experience builder for me!
Throughout the morning Dave gave me casting pointers and instruction. During the in between runs to new pockets and untying my bad casting knots we talked all things fly fishing and life. Captain Dave is a man passionate about fly fishing and I feel privileged to get to know him and, by the end of the trip, gain a friend.
Anytime you are in the Golden Isles give Capt Dave a call, well well worth it! Beautiful location, great equipment, GREAT TRIP!

Enjoyed Trip with Capt. Dave
PostedJune 16, 2017
I was hoping to work in a fly fishing outing on short notice while attending a business conference on Jekyll Island. Fortunately Capt. Dave had an opening. He knew where to find the fish. He provided good advice and the opoortnunity to cast to a number of fish. I landed a nice 10 lb red. If I had absorbed his advice sooner I likely would have landed several other fish. He was patient and enjoyable to be with. I will definitely contact him again when I am in the St. Simons/Jekyll Island area.

Redfish and Triple Tail - a great day

My son-in-law and fishing buddy, Jon and I have fished with Capt. Dave Edens over the last several years for a day each May. He is an experienced, knowledgeable and friendly guide and a good instructor who puts you on redfish, triple tail and other species as the tides and conditions permit. Yesterday we had good conditions and tailing happy reds. Dave put us in positions where we each had numerous shots, talked us past some casting errors, was complementary when we got it right and was excited when we hooked up and boated some nice 8lb 27" redfish. After the tide came in and the redfishing slowed, we went off-shore and found triple tail - a species I'd never seen or fished for - floating on the top and got one to eat. Though my weak strip strike cost me the onboard photo, the experience was memorable. If you are near or in Georgia's Golden Isles, I recommend a day on the flats with Capt Dave. And, whether you are a beginner or a seasoned saltwater sight-fisher, be sure to take him up on his offer of a complimentary one hour pre-trip casting evaluation and lesson. It pays dividends. Thanks Dave!
