Sun protection, March 5, 2009
By: Muskrat from Oakville, ON

"If you read through my other reviews you notice that I am cautious of sun damage; damage that builds up over time. This hat is a great way to protect the back and sides of your neck. It fits nicely (well at least on my noggin), it's light, it dries quickly, the bill cuts down on the glare and the cape flips up whenever you wish without making you look too dorky. Well worth the money."

Look like Lefty!, January 22, 2008
By: pescator7 from New York, NY

"Nice light weight hat that keeps the sun off of your head and keeps cool in the heat. The flip down cape does a great job of keeping the sun off your ears. The longer brim and dark underside help reduce glare coming off the water. The only negative is that the "one size fits all" can be a little snug for people with larger heads."

Super sailing hat, August 31, 2007
By: Wensail

"This hat is super lightweight and very comfortable in hot sun (I wear the stone color). The flip down cape just covers the tips of my ears even when flipped up, the long bill keeps my eyes shaded (good that the underside is darker to ward off glare), and I can put the cape all the way down for some neck protection when it is really blazing on the water. No matter how windy, I can't lose the cap with the lanyard clipped on. A good beach cap, too!
I had to sew in some extra elastic inside to adjust the fit as the cap is too big for my head (one size did not fit all and it only comes in L/XL--are we all giants? How about S/M as a size choice for women?) but it is a much more cool & comfortable sailing cap than any ballcap. I never sweat wearing my flippah. It also machine washes very nicely to freshen it up, and dries in no time. Stow the lanyard in the small pocket provided before washing. Very well made. Uncrushable and light, so it is a cinch to pack it rolled up or flattened if you use it for sun protection while traveling, with more classy looks than a ballcap.
Highly recommended. I'm going to buy another one. My sailing partner now wants one for himself. as I've lent him mine so often. Others in my boat club are eager to buy one, too, seeing me wear it constantly.
I could have been happier with the embroidered Orvis name less conspicuous or omitted from the front of the cap. I dislike wearing advertising, and the inner band says Orvis in 6 places--quite enough."
