Great Bird Hunting Gloves, July 30, 2009
By: BirdyBoy

"I bought these 4 seasons ago for grouse hunting. Since then, I have put countless days in the field in mild and frigid temps. Last winter, I hunted quail on a 7 degree day for three hours. Prior to that we chased pheasants in high winds at 11 degrees. My hands stayed warm AND dry regardless. These are great gloves that take a beating. They deliver warmth, comfort and great "feel" when you need to shoulder and shoot your gun."

Tough but too Orange, November 18, 2008
By: LongWalks

"Tough gloves that felt velvety on the inside and out. Clearly waterproof (you can barely feel and hear a slight crackle with the waterproof lining) and much warmer than the other reviewer noted.

I could take a long 3 mile walk in 10 degree weather and my cold sensitive hand didn't mind.

I did mind the tight size, I needed the XL, yet don't normally, and I especially didn't like the light almost orange tan color. If they were to have tanned these a deep brown or slight burgundy they would be much more dashing and much more flexible in application. If the color was a rich brown, even the loud Orvis logo wouldn't keep me from wearing these with my trench coat and suit.

Clearly a great hunting glove, but I'm moving up to the Kangaroo leather pair with a tougher thinner leather and much better look and slightly better feel. Still the Hawthorns are great gloves but with a bit of design improvement, they'd be classics."

Good gloves with a snug fit, May 7, 2008
By: graycloud

"The gloves are great quality and the materials are great quality as with all orvis products. The only issue for me is that the fingers are a bit too snug for me. Keep in mind if you have 'thick' fingers"

disappointed, February 1, 2008
By: oali

"they certainly look good but unfortunately even at a temp of 20F and around they are completely useless.
My fingers froze while walking to the car and then the insulating properties kept my fingers cold until I took them off.
So in summary they look good but completely ineffectual, will be returning them."

"I purchased these gloves the day before a week long wild pheasant hunt in north-central Kansas. These gloves provide great protection from crossing barbed-wire fences, pheasant spurs, etc, yet they are thin enough to provide great feel for the gun and safety switch. The light layer of Thinsulate is plenty enough to keep hands warm down to the lower to mid 20s, at least for me. Thanks!!!"
