Amazing convenience and capacity,
November 29, 2009

"For years I've been looking for a way to carry multiple rods safely without the bulk and weight of all those tubes. This case is the answer. I have mine loaded with 7 rods ranging from a 7' 9" 4-weight to a 9' 8-weight, as well as 8 reels to cover floating or sinking situations -- and there's still room left over for some fly boxes and other accessories! Orvis brags about its convenience as an airplane carry-on for destination trips, and I'm sure that's true. However, I like it for the at-home convenience right here in New England as well. With just this and a gear bag for vest and waders, everything I use most frequently is neatly and compactly stowed and available. In no time at all I can drop them in the car trunk, and I'm ready for just about any local freshwater or light saltwater opportunity I might happen upon."

What a good idea,
March 10, 2010
By:

"This item made me think about travelling fully prepared to fish even if the airline lost or delayed my luggage. It's well designed, and it has transformed my travel because I've finally gone completely carry-on, at least for the equipment I'll need in the first few days of any trip. Very well made and designed. And when we recently arrived at a lodge in Chile, all the checked luggage went missing for two days, but we were all set, thanks to this!"

Thrilled,
January 14, 2010

"We love this case. We call it our violin case as that is what it looks like! Probably wouldn't have put clear pockets on the outside, especially if you are traveling with it. I am sure that they are useful, just not as seemingly secure. The stitching on the outside has a small imperfection that may or may not be a problem and if it is we will send it back to Orvis, knowing what good customer service they have. We are amazed at how much fits in it and are thrilled as there are two of us using it. Will be as useful in the trunk as the plane."

Holds gear but don't take to stream,
January 8, 2010
By:

"I recently took this rod and reel case on a winter fishing trip and soon found out that it is not snow (water) resistant. It organizes gear just fine but when I returned to my cabin I noticed all of my stuff inside was soaked and when the case dried the water or melted snow had left stains all on the outside. I was very disappointed. Its a good gear organizer but thats about it. Not good for back country fishing, but with that being said I am still a die hard Orvis customer and wouldn't think of buying from any other company."

Great for people who fish in different conditions,
December 31, 2009
By:

"This is certainly a well-thought out piece of luggage. If you find yourself normally packing multiple rods, vests and/or wading jackets this is your go to case. At least in steelheading I find myself normally using at least 2 different rods and switching between wading jackets and vests. This is the way to stay organized and spend more time on the water. Great protection for your rods and gear. Find yourself some rod socks and pack up to 6 rods, reels, and still have room for your flyboxes."

perfect with one exception,
December 16, 2009

"My case arrived today and I was anxious to open it and put it to use. All of my stuff fit very well. The size and weight are superb. The adjustable pockets provide a snug fit for my fly boxes, reels and other stuff. That will be excellent for flying. Typically superb Orvis quality. Only one concern: for some reason the brackets for the shoulder strap are put on sideways. This makes the bag hang a bit strangely. I suppose it is tolerable, but wish they had been put on correctly. Still, a good buy on a good case."

Case needs skunk repellant coating,
November 2, 2009
By:
Winston943from Bend, OR
"I totally loved this travel case as it easily holds 3 4-pc takedown rods and companion reels and room for many other accessories. However, after my dog laid down next to it after she'd been sprayed by a skunk I have been unable to get all the skunk smell off the case even after cleaning it multiples of times. The outer plastic zip slots seems to have absorbed the skunk enzyme. Designers must think through every possible scenario to gain perfect scores. :-)"

Want one for 2 piece rods,
September 9, 2009

"I love the look and features of this case. Unfortunately, I currently only own 2 piece rods and they will not fit in this case. Orvis: Can you please make a larger version of this case to fit 2 piece rods?"

Great Bag,
September 7, 2009
By:
nwflyfisherfrom Chicago, IL
"I just purchased this bag and it should suit my trip well to not have any hassles from airline agents or TSA. As for the clips mentioned by Ray T - I asked one of the fisherman at an Orvis store about these clips being off by 90 degrees and they told me that it was so you could sling the case on your back rather than carry it at your side hitting anyone two feet in front and back of you - which made perfect sense when I put the pack on that way - can't wait to use this on the plane. The quality is very good and all of the materials are either a high quality nylon or climbing quality rubberized plastics for durability."

"I refer to this "Carry-All Rod and Reel case" as my "Tool Box". I carry four rods, the reels for each rod, and their respective fly boxes along with the necessary accessories. Everything is right there for any and all options. This case makes it plain, simple and easy as everything is right there for the taking. Good job Orvis.."

"Great piece of luggage, Hold 6 rods, 6 large fly boxes, 5 reels and assorted other things. One flaw, and this might be just in the one I bought, still waiting to hear back from Orvis... The anchor points for the shoulder strap are put on sideways. They should be rotated 90 degrees. The picture on the website shows it correctly, but the one I have is incorrect. It prevents you from easily carrying it using the shoulder strap as it is very awkward."

A must have for the traveling fisherman,
July 2, 2009
By:
Moonrakerfrom Los Angeles
"Incredible case. This one case can handle all your fly boxes, rods, reels, and accessories - short of waders and boots!
In a single bag, all your stuff remains really well organized and protected - and in most cases you can carry it on.
I carry 3 rods / reels and 3 spare spools, 3 fly boxes, all the leaders / tippet reels etc. in one signle case, this one is the real deal."

Great Organizer/Great Case,
February 14, 2009
By:

"I purchased this rod and reel case for our trip to Argentina. It held our four fly rods, reels, spare reel spools, 6 fly boxes full of flies, sun glasses, small digital camera, Ipod, Cell Phone, electronic English/Spanish translator with room left for AC power converter and cords! 2 short bungee cords allowed me to strap my Apex Jacket and a fleece to the bag once we left the cold midwest winter conditions. The inside pockets held all our leaders, tippet materials and strike indicators. The outer clear pocket held wet wips (for my wife!), Wader repair/patching supplies and TSA regulations which explains that all this stuff is allowed with carry-on luggage! We had no problems carrying the bag onto the plane except once in Argentina. Next trip we will print the TSA regulations in both English & Spanish! This bag is great. It keeps all your gear organized! If it is a weeklong adventure in a motor home, a short day trip in the CRV or a trip to Argentina all your stuff is all there! Just grab the rod case with your waders & vest and your ready for the stream."

The Perfect Rod and Reel Case,
January 5, 2009
By:
Vaquero1from Jemez, New Mexico
"I recently was looking for a dual rod and reel case where I can keep the reel attached to the rod while moving from one fishing site to another, or for traveling. I was told about this case by an Orvis salesperson who owns one, and being that we don't have an Orvis here in New Mexico, I asked him over the phone to put together 2 rods with their reels. He chose two four piece 9' rods, broke them down and put a BLA on each. They easily fit into the rod compartments with plenty of room for more rods and everything else I usually take with me, awkwardly, in multiple cases. No more. This is really well thought out and is the best case I've ever come across for all my fishing purposes. I purchased another for my brother who also has lots of stuff to carry. I highly recommend these cases and everything Orvis! They are endlessly thinking out their products usefulness, and the quality is always superb."

Women's Intuition,
December 21, 2008

"I got this organizer for a father's day gift based upon the recommendation of the local store manager to my wife. I know him well, and fish with him from time to time. When I first opened it and looked at it I was not that wild about it. I thought maybe this was a bit of a waste. Well, I got a surprise after I started putting my gear into it and you really dont appreciate how handy this is until you start to load it up. My wife knew better than me, just like she always says she does. This will hold 5 rods for me, and I believe I have 7 reels in it. Alternate the rods, grip to the left, then a grip to the right for max capacity. Some advantages are: >If you change streams or run into unexpected conditions, you always have the "right" gear with you. >Use the clear plastic pocket on the outside to store a couple extra of your favorite leaders, material and there WILL come the day you need them. >Tired of rod tubes rolling around in the back of your car? This ends that. >Hate it when you have to unload your gear because you need the back of your car/SUV for something else? Fixes that. And, it also prevents you from forgetting something for the next trip. One thing to remember: It is NOT long enough for a 10' rod if you use one of those."

This is a wonderful thing...,
May 22, 2008

"Before this case my partner and I carried one double and two single rod and reel cases on our bonefishing trips to the Caribbean. These were ungainly and difficult to handle going through the airports. What a pleasure it is to pack four rods and reels and everything else except the flats boots in one secure carry-on kit. I use the plastic outer windows to display the TSA regulations which say that small flies are allowed in carry-on luggage -- I have never been prohibited from taking flies onto the aircraft..."

Truly a Carry-It-All Rod and Reel case,
May 14, 2008
By:
EllicottCityFlyer
"This case is as advertised. I have four of my rods (3-wt, two 5-wt and 8-wt), four reels and two extra spools, tippets, three fly boxes, and still have two front compartments available. Living in MD, I can go to a mountain stream, big river or fish for stripped bass. This bag allows me to have all my equipment and don't have to repack every time. Also great for when I travel. I can carry it on the plane with almost all my fly fishing equipment. Must have for travel or if you just want to have multiple fly rods available."

Great case for the air traveller,
April 2, 2008
By:
Rudifrom New Jersey
"I bought this for a fishing trip to Argentina. Pretty much all my stuff (except the flies - TSA does not like hooks in carry-on luggage) fitted right in here. I took three rods (all 9' four piece rods) and three reels (Orvis Mach IV). Plus all the other stuff, extra line, leader, casting gloves etc. was well taken care of. Funny to note is that the only Orvis rod I took, a 9' Clearwater four piece, did only fit in the case if I bend the rod pieces and squeezed them in. I was asked several times what instrument I am playing...the case looks like a violin case!! I would recommend this and would buy it again - just make sure the rods fit."

Awesome Rod & Reel Case,
March 20, 2008
By:
ReelDealfrom Marietta, GA
"At the recommendation of store Manager Shannon Ward in Atlanta I purchased this bag and took it to Ireland. It held up great with rods and reels and even carried my digital and video cameras in it as well. It has excellent padding with Velcro inserts so you can customize individual compartments to your specific needs from larger to smaller items. I like the handle and shoulder strap that comes with this bag. When I get ready to pack for a fly fishing trip – this is my favorite bag and will be packed first!!!"

The carry-on case,

"If you travel to fish this is the rod case to carry. Multiple rods and reels fit in this baby and it stows perfectly. I use mine all of the time. The clear window pockets on the outside also allow you to see imporant documents such as your airlines schedule. Get one!"
