"I have had this rod for around 2 years now, and it has caught me many fish, ranging from 22 inch wild rainbow trout, to 5 pound bass. For anyone that is interested in a top notch rod, this is definitly a good choice."

The Superfine is better than ever, May 31, 2009
By: Teflon from Colorado

"I've owned more Superfines than I care to admit and loved the old unsanded blanks and reluctantly went to a newer model when I couldn't find what I wanted in the old ones. Well I'm glad I did because Orvis has made this rod superior to the previous models in every way, most importantly in the butt section of the rod. This new design has all the delicacy of the old model but now the butt section is much tougher and handles big fish much better, especially in a current. I highly recommend the latest generation of these rods. I already own two in addition to two older ones, plus I lost a 5th one last summer and I'll continue to buy them until Orvis stops making them."

Great Stream Fly Rod, May 19, 2009
By: goldenbadgeofpride from Paso Robles, CA

"I've had my 7'9" SFTB for about 2 years and have to say that this is one of my favorite small stream rods I have had. It's light in the hand and very sensitive when fishing in smaller streams. I have used it in small streams and creeks in the California Sierra's and it is a very accurate and strong rod. The workmanship is beautiful and it has been a very rugged and strong rod. I have several SFTB's and I have to say that this is my favorite. Unfortunately the recent price jump may cause buyers to shy away from these nice little rods."

Superfine Trout Bum #5 7,9ft, April 19, 2009
By: Michael1 from Germany

"I bought this Orvis rod, the Superfine Trout Bum #5 7,9ft, after I fell in love with that new and improved series when fishing the 6,6ft #4 wt version. The action is rated as "Full Flex 4.0". I would not call the rod slow. It feels incredibly light in hand even when compared with my older Winston IM6/ WT rods of similar length and weight.
I use a Wonderline WF 5 Superfine with it and this line is perfect -also for my slower action Winston WT and LT rods.
To sum up: Cosmetics are nice, cork is good, blank is beautiful.

This rod has sensibility and power. It is equally suited for nymphing (up to #12 tungsten head nymphs and small streamers), emerger and dry fly fishing.
Casting is a dream and it can throw quite a line as well as acts beautifully in close.
If I could only own 1 rod this one I would prefer!"

"I feel I am like most fly fisherman. I am always looking for the perfect rod. Something I can throw tight loops with, can fish in almost all conditions and feel pride of ownership. My Orvis Superfine is all that. I have 10 fly rods today and the Superfine is the one I look forward to having in my hand. I can throw tight loops out 40' and can roll cast 30' with out a problem. I love it."

Super Far 'n Fine!, June 9, 2008
By: crosscreek from Asheville, NC

"I somehow managed to snag the first production example of this rod and have been blissfully fishing it for trout, panfish, and bass since early fall of 2006. I've had a number of graphite Superfines over the decades since they first came out, most notably the 8ft 3pc Trout and, of course, the original Far 'n Fine, ancestor to this rod. While the original is a wonderful fishing rod, the latest generation is better casting, easier to pack, tougher, and prettier. I've tried lines from DT3 to WF5 on it, and it feels right at home with them all. I can't seem to find a situation in my fishing for which it's not perfect. I think my fishing is improving by sticking to only one rod (don't tell Orvis!). I like this rod so much I took advantage of the trade in promotion to get another identical one, just in case. This rod truly deserves to be called "Far 'n Fine.""

NEW AND IMPROVED "FAR AND FINE", May 18, 2008
By: ALLABOUTTROUT from EVERETT, WASHINGTON

"I HAVE OWNED MANY ORVIS RODS, INCLUDING NEWER AND OLDER BAMBOO RODS, AS WELL AS OLDER SUPERFINES AND I HAVE PURCHASED THE NEW ORVIS SUPERFINE ONE-WEIGHT, THE 602-4, THE 763-4, 704-4, AND THE 795-4 AND THEY ARE ALL INCREDIBLE RODS, TO THE EXTENT THAT I HAVE TO WRITE A REVIEW FOR EACH. THE 795-4 IS BASED SOMEWHAT ON THE ORIGINAL "FAR AND FINE" GRAPHITE FLY ROD, WHICH WAS MY FIRST ORVIS ROD PURCHASED IN 1981. I LOVED THE OLD ROD AND FELT IT WAS THE GREATEST GRAPHITE TROUT ROD EVER DEVELOPED. THE NEW TROUT BUM VERSION IS EVEN BETTER. IT IS A LITTLE FASTER, SO IT HANDLES 5WT. LINE WITH MUCH MORE ACCURACY AND DISTANCE, WHILE STILL RETAINING ITS DELICACY. THE STRONGER CONSTRUCTION AND FOUR PIECE CONVENIENCE ARE THE ICING ON THE CAKE. I CAN CAST THIS ROD EASILY 50-60' WITHOUT TRYING. BUY THIS ROD. THAT'S ALL I CAN SAY!"

My new favorite rod !, October 14, 2007
By: TomB

"This is my 2nd Orvis Superfine and my 3rd fly rod. My other Superfine is the 7'6" 3 wt. and I also have a 9' fast action 4 wt.

I'm not sure I really needed this one but after trying at my local Orvis store I couldn't resist it. I have it paired up with the CFO III reel with the Superfine Wonderline which is designed for slower action rods.

It is so light in the hand and has such a nice swing to it I can see where this will probably be my most used set up.

The first time I was actually able to get it in the water it was amazing how good it felt and worked when I had the water tension on the line.

Its just so nice to throw the Superfine after using some of the fast action rods on the market, it has such a relaxing pace and isnt at all tiring. And if you aren't catching anything you can always just admire what a good looking rod it is....."

"I just picked up one of the first new Trout Bum Superfines, the 7'9" 5-weight. This is my idea of a trout rod, smooth and progressive - almost like bamboo but more lightweight, even in a 4-piece configuration. The understated olive color, smaller grip with Superfine front taper and cap & ring seat also give it a timeless, classic look. Nice going, Orvis."

"I'm happy to see that Orvis is continuing the Superfine series of rods. I currently own 18 Orvis fly-rods and I'm awaiting delivery of my 19th, a 5wt Superfine Henry's Fork. My collection includes 6 Superfines, 7 Tridents, 1 T-3, 3 Silver-Label TL's and 1 Clearwater. I'm building a collection for my retirement in about 4 years and I think I'm going to need a couple of the new Superfine Trout-Bum rods!! Keep up the good work Orvis!!"
