Best Bed Ever!,
October 29, 2009
By:

"I purchased this bed for my 12 1/2 year-old Yellow Lab, who has arthritis in her hips. She loves it! It appears to be very comfortable to her, yet it is easy for her to get off of the bed because of it's firmness. I had tried one of the "nest" beds, but it was too soft for her. One of the best, yet unexpected features, is that it is extremely easy to keep this bed free of dog hair. The fabric of the cover is very soft to the touch, and I was worried that the pet hair would cling to it. Plus, my dog is yellow, and the bed is brown. Not so! The bed, because of it's firmness, is very easy to vaccum! I'm describing the bed as "firm", but it yields to the touch because it is memory foam. This bed is expensive, but it is worth every cent. Excellent product!!!"

2 Yellow Labs give two paws up!,
October 25, 2009

"I knew I bought a winner when I couldn't even get the bed laid out before our big lab Lucky plopped right down and wouldn't get off. We bought the X-large bed and our 2 boys really love sleeping together on it. They completely disregard the other canvas bed they have. One of the dogs has arthritis, and he especially benefits from the memory foam.
The bed is handsome and doesn't show hair. We've had it a few months and it looks as good now as the day we bought it."

2 Paws Up,

"My 12 year old loves the bed....the only problem is that my 2yr old lab thinks it's for him! He doesn't get it that the bed is reserved for senior citizens so I'll just have to order another. Orvis...you should have a discount for making this product so good that I have to order more than 1!"

Stop looking and just buy this,

"I thought the price was high at first, but wow, is this the most comfortable bed in the world. We joke that it's softer and more supporting than our own people bed. The dog loves it, and I have to admit I feel horrible for making him sleep on cheaper beds before I got smart. Your dog deserves this bed, buy it."

No support,

"I bought this bed for my 9 year old Lab Monty who sufers with arthritis, We have bought him a Therepeutic Bolster bed which he sleeps on at night and loves but it is too big for our lounge. I have to say that this cushion is very well made and the cover washes well but the mattress is very soft and after only 10 weeks the mattress is so soft Monty gets no support from it and might as well sleep on the floor! I initiallty chose this bed as it said it was made from memory foam and the cover looked quilted but I do wish that I had bought the Therepeutic memory foam bed and feel that I have wasted my money,"

Great Bed!,
May 11, 2009

"I recently purchaed two of these beds for my 90lb. chocolate labs and was pleasantlly surprised when they arrived. They are exactly as described on the website. The only improvements ORVIS could make to this specific bed would be to offer this bed in a thicker memory foam and center your personalization (my personalization came super of center, which looks pretty weird). It's only been a few days, so I'm interested to see how long these beds actually last:)"

Pretty good, but...,
March 24, 2009
By:

"The sage color is more brown than green (wish I'd ordered slate, but didn't want to wait on backorder).
I have a 55 lb dog and the Medium seems a little small for him... BUT he's had two knee surgeries, so he doesn't really curl up when he sleeps. So if you have a dog who sprawls when he sleeps, you might want to go a size up.
The memory foam is great and my dog definitely seems to have an easier time getting up and down off this bed than he did with his old "pillow" style bed. I think this is because it's flat, rather than curved (in addition to the extra cushion of the memory foam).
Because of my dog's health issues, I have to wash the cover daily. It washes beautifully and dries well on the delicate cycle even though it's pretty thick and heavy. I thought it would require several dry cycles, but it dries in one.
I do wish the cover had a "clam shell" (three sided) zipper, instead of just having the zipper on one end. The fabrics of the outer cover and inner cover tend to stick to each other, which makes the cover a bit awkward to get on and off, especially since the mattress is a bit heavy. This could be easily solved if the zipper went at least half way down each of the long sides of the bed.
Finally, the cover is water resistant, but not water proof, so don't expect it actually keep the foam dry if "soaked". My dog has a bladder tumor, so he has frequent accidents, especially at night. I bought this bed because I wanted him to have something more comfortable and because when I added a water-proof inner liner to his old bed, it caused him to slide off it. The first few nights with this bed & cover were fine, but after 5-6 washings, his "accident" leaked through the cover to the inner mattress.
I've now added the water-proof inner liner to this bed (got the liner for about $15 at a "big box" pet store locally). The liner keeps the moisture from soaking through to the foam and because the quilted outer cover that comes with the bed is so thick and fleecy, there is no change in the way the bed feels from the outside. The waterproof inner liner also helps ease the "friction" of trying to get the mattress into the cover (see comments above).
Overall, this seems to be a high quality bed. I think the cover will stand up to daily washings without any problems, but there are some things that could be improved. I'd buy it again in a bigger version and different color. And if moisture and accidents are a concern, I'd add a waterproof liner from the onset. Sadly, I think it will probably out-live my dog... but it will be handed down and will continue to be well loved, I'm sure."

Only dog bed I won't have to replace!,
March 13, 2009
By:

"I was hesitant to spend this much money on a dog bed but I have been SO thrilled with it and so is my dog!! It absolutely repels dirt, hair, odor and "accidents". Every other bed I ever bought became covered in dog hair and smelled terrible and constant washing just was exhausting and frustrating. This bed is worth EVERY PENNEY you pay for it not to mention the orthopedic benefits for my older dog. She adores it and I would never buy another kind of dog bed in the future!"

"Our chocolate lab mix sleeps in our kitchen but he loves to be in whatever part of the house we are in. I was worried about him spending time in our newly redecorated living room as he used to lie in the middle of the rug and lean up against the couch. Since we got this bed he loves to stretch out on it whenever we are sitting on the couch. It looks great in the room and does a good job of containing his shedding to one small area of the room. The dog hair is very easy to shake out or vacuum off. My husband thought this bed was expensive until I pointed out that it is much cheaper to purchase and replace a dog bed than replace our living room rug. The dog seems to be very comfortable on this bed, although we are not using this as his primary bed."

Another great Orvis bed...,
February 21, 2009
By:

"Our lab Winston had knee surgery last week and although he loves his Orvis nest, he was having problems getting in and out of it since it's kind of lumpy and he only has 3 good working legs at the moment. We ordered him this bed a couple of days ago, it just arrived yesterday and he hasn't gotten off of it since. He hasn't been sleeping well because he has to use an e-collar at night and this morning when I went to get him he was sound asleep on it. Thank God!!! We hesitated because of the price but rest assured it was well worth the amount!"

Great Bet,

"I purchased this dog bed in March 2008 and it still looks like new. The cover washes beautifully and has no shrinkage which makes it easy to put back on. The waterproof liner works perfectly and my 80-pound doberman has not made a dent in it; it still looks like new. I would definitely recommend this dog bed to anyone who wants a comfortable, well-made bed for their dog."

"I purchased the medium sized bed, for my German Wirehair Pointer (about 70 lbs). It's plenty big for him, and he liked it right away. The bed looks much nicer than any others we have owned in the past. The shape is holding up perfectly, and it looks really comfortable. I would definitely buy this again and would highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a long-lasting, stylish bed."

"I bought this dog bed 6 months ago against my husband's opinion that it was too expensive. My husband has since changed his mind and believes it was a wise choice. My 2 year old black lab loves it. This is the only dog bed that Jet has not chewed a hole in. We placed it in his crate and most nights he puts himself to bed. We find Jet sleeping on it, with the crate door open, in the mornings."

The dogs LOVE this bed,
December 11, 2008

"My dogs were used to their lumpy old beds and it took them a few days to accept new ones- I bought two - but they love these beds now. I do too. They look good, the covers wash and dry perfectly. When my old girl barfed all over one, the vomit didn't seep through to the foam! Great lining! What more can I ask for? This has made a couple of elderly dogs their humans very happy."

best dog bed for big dogs,
October 1, 2008
By:
bmhowardfrom Falls Church, VA
"We bought the XL version of this bed for our 100+ lb. bloodhound whose joints and bones had suffered from years of abuse and a few gunshot wounds (not by our hands of course, he's a rescue). He has calluses on his elbows and ankles that hurt him and cause him to lay down in uncomfortable positions-- which normally leads to him trying to sleep in our bed, and him getting up frequently to switch positions. Last night, he slept through the whole night, in a regular sleeping position, on his new bed-- no sign of discomfort. A memory foam dog bed really does make all the difference, and I think this one is the highest quality one I've seen, it will definitely be the last dog bed we'll need. Our beagle and cat love it too! The saffron color is very unique, looks great."
