"Glad I ordered the XLG for my 75 lb retriever. It covers her tummy which was what I really wanted, but it was hard to put on so I cut the front legs shorter to make it easier for her to get her paws through. Now we're both happy. It doesn't hinder her running or jumping at all and is soft and light weight. Does just what I wanted, light, soft, covers well, and doesn't hinder her activities."

"Purchased 2 of them, pink and green, and have returned both. Sophie is a Bichon, the length and girth were right, and she weighes 20lbs. The problem was that the neck and chest were way too small...she could hardly move, and the "sleeves" were way too long for a smaller dog, they would have to be rolled up.....she looked like a stuffed sausage."

"The quality of the product is very nice. However I was very disappointed as the sizing is totally off especially as I ordered two of them. My dog weighs 25 lbs (at the vets) and I was unable to even put it on him it was so small. He would need at LEAST two sizes larger.
As I live in Canada and as it would have been a nuisance to return them I have instead donated them to a rescue group that brings in tiny dogs (yorkies etc) from hot places (California, Mexico etc). Those poor little ones hardly have any hair and our winters are very hard on them. Having done that they will be put to good use however I won't be ordering any more for myself."

"We live on the lakefront in Chicago and we have the most wonderful blue doberman. Sometimes blue dobies lose their hair, and our guy is one of them. We ordered this fleece last year and its what got us through the winter. Levi is tall and thin with a large barrel chest and the fleece fits him perfectly! The collar comes up nice and high on his neck, and this fleece also provides great coverage for his bald chest and upper arms. He looks so good in it and it functions so well, I'm ordering him another one for this year in a different color. Thank you for making such a great product. Worth the $$$$."

"I have a boxer, named Zalei. With her deep chest and tiny waist this fits her so well. The second she sees her coat coming out she can't wait to get it on. She loves it! I love the fit, the collar up around her neck. It stays in place while she plays. It's warm and cozy. She also likes to sleep in it. Washes up great. I have tried many different types of coats and sweaters over the last 25 yrs. And this is by far my and my dogs favorite! Thanks for the design."

"This fleece is great for my shorthair as it covers his belly where he has very little fur. It's also great for male dogs since it has an elastic underbelly fitting close to his body so that he does not soil himself when he has to go."

"The only time my doberman, Phoebe, is not wearing her fleece sweater is when it is being washed. When I pull it out of the dryer and call her over, her eyes light up and she runs happily over to have it put back on her. I know she loves the sweater because she voluntarily shoves her head through the neck of the sweater and lifts each paw into the arms. Her nub wiggles like crazy when it's on. Being a lean and short haired dog, this sweater is a big comfort to her as she is outside most of the day at doggie day care. I hope that the other colors are stocked in her XL size soon. Great product!"

"My 12yr-old dog loves this coat. She wags her tail when she sees me bring it out to put on her. She is arthritic and we live in a cold climate. This coat keeps her warm, especially at night. It does not fit like the picture, not quite as neat but other than that, it is awesome!!!! I hope Orvis offers this or something similar in the future. Buy this for your dog if exposed to cold!!!!!"

"I ordered 2 of the Fleece Dog Warmers, both in X-Large. One of them is a little big for our Collie/Chocolate Lab mix, but it looks great on him - because he has the narrow chest of a collie. However, the 2nd fleece warmer is too small for our Black Lab/Rottweiler mix. I ordered X-Large based on the instructions and am disappointed that it doesn't fit our Black Lab/Rottweiler mix very well. It is isn't wide enough across the chest. It would be great if there were bigger sizes up from X-Large. I had actually gone into the order page to order larger ones, but X-Large is the biggest size. Very disappointed. Otherwise, they are a great sweater and it does keep their body core nice and toasty warm on those very chilly days. Wish the warmers had an outer layer that could be zippered on or off - for rain and snow to keep them dryer, or for those really windy, cold days to block the wind. Thanks. Roseanna, PEI, Canada"

"I bought these fleeces for my greyhounds. They live in them 24 hours a day all winter long.
The only problem is for male dogs. You have to remember to pull it up when they go tinkle or the belly part will get soaked.
These fleeces are easy to wash and hold up well. I have had mine for 4 years now."

"My dogs have had these sweaters for two years now and they are still in great condition. They keep them warm when it is freezing outside. They wash well and do not fall apart. The fabric does not get pulls or snags on it like other sweaters do. I have one dog that is about 12 years old and it is perfect for keeping her snug when it is cold and she loves when I put it on her."

"Ordered Medium, Periwinkle, monogrammed and it's too small. My dog fits the measurements listed on the website for a medium with room to spare (39 pound dog, freshly shaved hair) but I cannot get the sweater on my dog comfortably. The sweater photo on the website looks much more roomy and nice fitting than the sweater actually was for my dog. I recommend sizing up if your dog is close to the next size up. The monogram is in small block letters vertically on the sweater back like it was an after-thought. Material is thin. I am returning for a refund. Customer service is very good since I can return for refund (minus the return shipping fee)."

"I ordered this for my Dalmatian, Florian, who was occasionally shivering after coming in from outside (very light coat) in colder weather. While disappointed that the colors I really preferred were already sold out - this periwinkle fleece was worth its weight in gold this past week when the power was out for 4 days. My house got down to 45 degrees! That was with the Kerosene heater going! Needless to say Flo never shivered - she kept warm the entire time with her fleece on! Despite her being a small Dalmatian (42 pounds), she is thin and long with a very deep chest - so I ordered a large for her and It fits great!"

"I have purchased two of these for our Min. Schnauzer. They are extremely well constructed, the fleece is soft but thick and keeps her warm in the coldest Chicago weather. When it gets wet/snowy/slushy, I add the lined Muttluks and she's able to enjoy the outdoors for prolonged periods of time.
Perhaps because we started with the fleece early (and she's small), it's easy to get her into it.
I've recommended these to dog owners we've met on our walks. Instead of cute or hokey, they're actually sort of cool-looking."

"My 11 year Golden has arthritis in her back so the goal is to keep her warm in my drafty house this winter. The warmer is very nice fleece, totally soft and will be comfy. But I have to exchange it for a larger size because it is very difficult to put on. The turtleneck goes over the head and then each front paw has to go thru a sleeve. There should be some zipper or something to make it easier. Despite having only a 63-lb Golden, I have to swap the size Large for an Xlarge, just to get it onto her without distress."

"I have an 85lb black lab going on 11 years that I purchased this coat for. He's in great shape for his age with lots of energy - yes still - but as with many labs, his joints are starting to bother him and as a result I have taken steps to address his overall quality of life. This purchase was one of them.
Coming from Orvis one would expect quality - but I have to say that I was surprised to see how plush, soft and well constructed this coat was. It's worth every penny - seriously.
So the next question in my mind was how would he react to this thing. Now I'm not certain if it's more of a game to him getting this on over his head or if he is simply excited to have it put on - who knows - but lets just say that when it comes to my dog it's a bit of a challenge getting this coat on. Maybe a quarter or half zipper at the neck would make sense or maybe I just need to be smarter than my dog - both are debatable.... but once on it is obvious that this makes a big difference in his level of comfort while in the cold. He absolutely loves it.
The most difficult decision in purchasing this item was figuring out what size to get. Good luck with that. All I can say is I took a flat out guess and went with the notion that bigger is better than it being too small so I bought a Red XL and it's a great fit. Not tight but not falling off of him either. The coat covers his entire body from the back of his ears to the base of his tail. The bottom is cut a little shorter with a fleece covered elastic band that keeps it snug to his belly and out of the way so he can do what he needs to do with no worries of it getting in the way.
A final note - I've ordered from Orvis numerous times before and maybe I just never noticed but for those new to Orvis or are like me and clueless - they enclosed a pre-paid return address sticker to place on the package in case you need to return the item for whatever reason - say something like the wrong size possibly... A minor thing maybe but adds a level of convenience and to me just another sign of what makes this company stand out above the rest. And no - I'm not being paid for this but attention Orvis review reading administrator - I will gladly except the Green XL Fleece Dog Warmer as compensation - my second choice in color :]
In short, this is a great well constructed coat for your four legged person. I give it 5 stars because it's clear this makes a big difference for him... and for me that's what matters the most."

"This is a marvellous idea. Was not too sure about the size as my dog did not seem to be either medium or large so thought I would err on the side of caution and get him a large. However, all is well as it fits him beautifully. He looked at me quite curiously when I tried it on him then rolled over and went to sleep!!!! This is going to be ideal in the coming months for all the camping trips we are going on. No more muddy interiors..can just slip his fleece on and keep both him and the inside of the car/caravan/ tent mud free. Plus it will keep him warm...not just for the older dog, young ones love this too. Name was beautifully stitched on as well.. looking forward to his next muddy trip now..."
