"FIVE Stars+ for this gate! On Oct 11th, his 3rd mo birthday, Tealbrook Kennel’s (FL) Rylee arrived home at Havre de Grace, MD with us after our 1996 mile trip to pick him up. We are experienced retriever puppy raisers though it has been 12 years since our last pup. We had “puppy proofed” our townhouse as best we could but when we returned with Rylee we realized he could sneak out thru our laundry room and get outside thru the garage. We needed easy access to the room for ourselves but also needed to easily and conveniently block Rylee. I had been reviewing the Orvis Dog catalog regularly in preparation for Rylee’s arrival. I checked the catalog and the web site and ordered the gate. It is absolutely perfect – easy to open and close with one hand and attractive enough to be part of the décor in our entrance hall. When I compared this to other options I found this to be a great value. We have spent a lot of money on various gadgets and supplies for our retrievers over the years – mostly for our convenience. We finally nailed it with this purchase. P. S. Forget the directions – just put the thing up. You will love it."

each in his place,

"We're a family of dogs, cats, people, and multiple stories. Peace and harmony depend on each of us staying where he or she belongs.
Enter the Orvis Hardware Door Fame Containment Gate. We use this exceptionally well-built pet gate at the bottom of the stairs that lead from the ground floor to the second. Dogs belong below, cat above, people on both.
The product is sturdier than anticipated. WIth a little practice, those of us who enjoy movable thumbs are able to let ourselves through the gate with a full load of laundry in one arm and just one hand for gate operation. Over the years we've owned many 'dog gates'. This one is the best."

Nice dog gate,

"The wide version of this gate adjusts to fit practically any sized hallway or door gap in my house. It is very well made and sturdy. Installation is easy and the wood quality is quite high. The nice thing is I don't have to take the gate down all the time when we have friends over because it looks very stylish and high quality. The price is a little high for the wide version compared to other gates I have seen, but it is superior quality."

"Having a gate with a door is really terrific (vs the old versions where you had to climb over or take it down every time. These look nice enough to leave up all the time and are easy to open and close. They were easy to assemble and are great to keep our new lab puppy from running around the house."

Terrific gate!,

"I have just ordered and received my second Hardwood Door Frame Containment Gate. My first one has been the key to a protected front door hallway, managing my two large, people-loving, poodles for the last four years. The dogs do not rush the gate as they did the open front door. Constant use and family traffic have tested the gate beyond what I would have thought reasonable. It is still working wonderfully and looks like furniture, not like a barrier. I now am moving to a home that has two openings near the door and I need a second gate to manage my dogs. I knew the solution immediately. Another of the beautiful Hardwood Door Containment Gates!"

Cat has freedom from dog harassment,
May 28, 2009

"I am absolutely thrilled with the low version gate complete with a cat door. Having just moved into a new home with the need to convert a previously indoor/outdoor cat to a strictly inddor cat and to keep his food and litter box out of reach of the Golden's was proving to be a challenge. I came across this gate and can't not say enough about the style, ease of use,and the functionality both for the cat and myself. I can easily access the cats room without having to move a gate out of the way and the cat can roam from room to room without having to jump a gate."

"Well constructed, looks good, keeps my german shepherds contained, does not require permanent mounting...
What more could you want?
A cat door, of course.... I am spending the evening looking for a cat door walk through without mounting hardware.....

A life-saver!,

"I already have one for the doorway between the kitchen and living room. It keeps my 2 German Shepherds in the kitchen within sight of me in the living room when I don't want them there. Their being able to see me keeps them calmer and happier than they would be with a closed door. It is sturdy, was easy to assemble, and attractive. The latch opens easily and the gate swings whichever way you want for easy access. I'm getting a second for another room. Thanks, Orvis!"

This is the best gate I have bought,

"My spaniel and Jack Russels easily opened the cheaper white metal gates, but because you have to lift the latch at the top to raise the 'foot', they haven't been able to open this one, despite lots of trying! It is a lot of money but is well worth it - I would definitely buy again."

"Because the gate is made of wood and puppies love to chew, this gate is not practical. My puppy has almost chewed through one of the wood spindles. It would be a great gate if it was all metal."

Functional and stylish,
September 10, 2008

"Compared to most pet gates, this one is quite attractive. It is also quite a bit easier to open and close that the previous gate we had. It would be nice if they could make the botton part of the frame (that goes along the floor across the hall opening) even smaller, so that one would not have to worry as much about stepping over it. Not that this is a problem for us, but I can imagine older visitors catching their foot on it. Also, for a "tall" gate, it is not that tall. Perhaps a few more inches might have been nice, especially if one has pets that jump. Finally, if you have molding around the bottom of the opening in your hallway, the gate appears to only really work and look even if you raise the entire position of it up so that the bottom stoppers are above the molding (i.e. about three inches off the ground). Again, this is not so much a real problem, but only a minor bug that might be nice to see worked out. Overall, though, this is a very nice gate. I am considering buying another one. If I could, I would give it a 4.5 star rating."

"Bought this gate for our two 70+ lb dogs and both of them can jump on it at the same time and it still stands. Works great. The only problem is that visitors always trip on the bottom support. They should watch where they're going!!!"

"This gate divides the mudroom from the kitchen and works better than any other gate that I have used. It easily keeps 4 German Shepherds on the other side. It's easy to use, easy to install and looks great. I bought one for my sister and she loves it too."

"this gate hopes up very well in the door frame, and even if you have a dog that jumps on this, it will stay in place. the only problem I had was my dog loves to chew on wood, and his gate has quite a few chew marks from his early months when he would chew on pretty much anything he could find
thanks"
