Orvis Hy-Flote™ Tapered Leaders

Orvis Hy-Flote™ Tapered Leaders

The first advance in leader technology in years. Exclusive Orvis Hy-Flote is a specially formulated nylon material with a chambered core that provides more buoyancy than traditional extruded nylon materials, enhancing fly control, casting ease and stealth. Guiding a dry fly through fast-moving water and tricky currents is easier because the material is less likely to be pulled underwater. Picking the line off the water takes less effort and subtlety, enhancing casting ease for novices, and is quieter, improving stealth for novices and experts alike. Particularly effective for skating caddis, hoppers or big attractors. Ideal when used with Mirage Tippet for the best of both worlds—a butt section you can control with a nearly invisible, very strong connection to the fly. Perfect for spring creeks and tricky currents. In pale olive. Sizes: 0X, 1X, 2X, 3X, 4X, 5X.

"I enjoy fishing soft hackled wet flies and I have found a Hy Flote leader to be excellent for fishing wets a few inches below the surface. Combine this leader with a couple of feet of Mirage tippet and it will keep the fly within a foot of the surface with no need to grease the leader. Saves time and the messiness of floatant."

to fish the lily pads or not, October 12, 2007

"The Orvis Hy-Flote tapered leaders are the bomb for pond and river fishing. If you are fishing poppers or dry flies these leaders make life a little easier. I use them when fishing poppers in lilly pad heavy places and it makes control an easy thing. No worries about your leader sinking under the pads making them hard to backcast. Pickup is a dream with large dear hair poppers because there is no need to try to get your leader up from below the surface... it simply makes pond and river bass fishing a dream."

"Most importantly, they float like a cork keeping my indicator riding high. The extra visibility on them is actually a big help with the way I fish. The trout in our catch and release areas are lightning quick and this is where a lot of people struggle. When a trout takes your fly you have about a millisecond to set the hook or he is gone! If you even think your indicator moved you better set the hook quick. With this said, it is paramount to have as little slack in your leader as possible, without causing drag. The more direct the link between the rod tip and the fly, the higher your strike to catch ratio is going to be. The new Hy-Flote Leaders visibility and high floatation is a huge bonus in keeping my indicator riding high as well as allowing me to see my leader, thus eliminating extra unwanted slack. On Saturday I rigged a 9ft 4x leader with a piece of our new Ultimate Indicator Yarn at the end of the leader then stepped down to a small section of 5x Mirage Tippet and again to a section of 6x Mirage tippet with a #14 olive scud tied on the end. I had a great day fishing with lots of nice fish. The fish of the day was a big studly hooked jawed 24" Brown. It was by far the biggest and nicest 24" Brown I have ever caught. The moral of this story is that this has improved my leader situation just like the fluorocarbon did to my tippet situation. I love the high floatation and leader visibility. Hy-Flote Leaders Rule!"

"After guiding for 15 years and using countless containers of Muscilin, I am extremely pleased with this leader. I just tried the hy float leader on Armstrong's Spring Creek. By adding Mirage as tippet, I had the best of both worlds. The leader mended with ease and allowed extremely long drifts. I was extremely impressed the way the leader floated all day long. This is a must have for dry fly fishing; I know I will have it on my rods."
