"I purchased this for my boyfriend's Christmas gift. He loved the heavy duty metal, the slope of the iron (adds to the heat reflective qualities AND is self feeding). As an engineer, he totally loooved the design of this grate, but was reluctant to purchase due to the price. I also purchased the pineapple finials, which was the perfect decorative element to add to his fireplace. We both enjoy a nice fire on cool evenings, so in a way, I was gifting myself at the same time I was gifting him! He LOVES it..."

"Well, I was very skeptical about this product. How could a fireplace grate turn a smoky non-functional fireplace into one that we could use? Well I read all of the reviews and all of them described the same type of fireplace that I had. I couldn't even use it because it left the house filled with smoke and smelling awful for days. I love sitting by a warm fireplace but the way mine was....it was worthless. I decided to buy the grate. I received the grate yesterday and built my first fire this morning. All I can say is WOW, this is worth every penny. No smoke in the house, and a nice fire burning with the glass doors open. Thank you Orvis."

"Our house is really tight. We have an oversized opening on the fireplace so the while it looks good, the smoke would just pour out unless we spent more than an hour carefully nurturing the starter fire. Other conditions included no heat running anywhere, cracking a window or door, not running the dryer or stove vents and keeping the fire really hot. It was so much trouble that last year we didn't even use that fireplace. I was investigating adding gas logs when I found this product. It works perfectly with no fuss at all. We are now enjoying this fireplace immensely. On the advice of our chimney sweep, we did add a fireback to protect the back wall of the fireplace, because it gets really hot. I cannot believe how well this device is working. THANK YOU!!"

"It only took 10 minutes to convince me this grate WORKS! If your house smells like smoke immediately after you build a fire, this is the answer! I no longer run from the room coughing and choking! I don't even "crack" a window anymore! I even bought one for my sister because her fireplace billowed smoke worse than mine! You will not be disappointed at all! Also, you don't need to use as many logs. After my fire starts I only put one log on @ a time because it burns hotter. Spend the $$ you won't be sorry! I bought the 21" which is perfect for a standard fireplace. Stop putting it off like I initially did...BUY IT NOW!"

"I have a fireplace that was useless to me because smoke would pour into our living room if the smoke went infront of a poorly placed flu. To replace the fireplace was going to cost about $7000. I bought this and I can have fires without any issues! If you have back draft this is the answer!!! I am buying another to have on hand for years to come!!"

"I hesitated buying because - it's "pricey". I took the chance, and, very glad i did. 'No longer hesitate to make a fire in my freshly-painted rooms. No more smoke/draft problem. Also, i feared the fire wouldn't be as visible/attractive (wood stacked toward the back, then elevated?-how would that look?) However, i've had very beautiful, easily tended fires. It's all-good for me, no negatives."
