If you buy one waxed cotton jacket in your life, make it a Barbour. If you're looking for that same smart look, but want to wear it over your suit, the longer-waisted Border is for you. They both feature new exclusive and handsome Barbour Ancient Tartan lining, and a new internal zipper that replaced the old studs for a great new zip-in vest. Both are constructed of the classic, waterproof waxed 100% cotton outer to keep you dry in the worst conditions, and feature a full storm flap at the neck and adjustable storm gusset sleeves for further protection. The jackets are smartly accented with a corduroy collar, studded for an optional hood, and moleskin-lined hand-warmer pockets, bellows pockets with drain holes, raglan sleeves with underarm ventilation, adjustable storm cuffs, detachable inside game pockets, and a brass-finish, two-way metal zipper. 37" in size 42. Barbour jacket in sage. Cold sponge, no soap. UK.UK even sizes: 34-52.

Classic jacket,
December 30, 2008
By:

"The Barbour Border jacket is a classic fall, typical winter and spring jacket. It is long enough to fit perfectly and comfortably over a suit though not too long to make driving uncomfortable. The arms and sleeves are well-thought out and roomy. It's great in wet, blustery or slushy weather. I no longer even bring an umbrella, preferring to batten down the optional hood, tuck my hands in the rib-high warmer pockets and forge forward.
The coat has roomy pockets with a securely zipped inside chest wallet pocket. No I don't use the interior game pockets for dead ducks but they are great for the stray water bottle. The exterior pockets are great for a book, iphone or both without feeling frumpy or unbalanced.
While I have worn it with a fleece liner vest on colder days, for anything single digit F or below, I opt for a more traditional wool coat. The Border tends to stiffen up and it doesn't provide enough arm insulation.
Finally, though, whenever you get a glimpse of yourself in this jacket, in a mirror or store window, you'll smile and be glad you picked this flattering, traditional though more expensive classic rather than a cheaper substitute."

AWESOME,

"Can not say all of the review in 50 characters. The fit is just SO comfortable. It does not bind on a thick chest yet there is no uncomfortable jacket around the waist. A 20" neck is not too much for this jewel. The waxed cotton hood and the warm plush waistcoat-zip-in liner is a mandatory addition for COLD WINDY weather. Santa should have plenty in stock."

"I received a Barbour Border jacket from the world's best wife in February. Since then we have had cold, snow, ice, sleet , rain, wind and even one sunny day in Kentucky. Through it all my Border has been superb. I love the longer length and it is a great weight. Thanks honey, I love it."

Oldie but goodie,

"With all the new fabrics and styles available, the vintage Border jacket has the breeding and lineage that makes it a winner. I bought it for a Fall/Spring jacket, but ended up wearing it thru a cold Ohio winter. The little extra room makes it great for layering and the waxed cotton stops anything Mother Nature can throw at it. Wind, rain and snow are not a problem. I wear it as my topcoat to work in the winter. It keeps me warm and dry in all weather. It wears like iron and is easy to keep clean. This is one of my best purchases."

Great as an Overcoat!!,

"I traveled all over Europe a few years ago on business and this was the jacket I bought for the trip. The weather in Germany, Austria and Switzerland is unpredictable in March. It was great in the wet snow, rain and wind. The hood made it much better than a traditional overcoat."

"After I got everyone else what they wanted for Christmas, I went out and bought this coat for myself, the day after. It started raining, hard the night after Christmas, and it was still a "frog choker" when I went to work on Monday morning. But I was warm, dry, and just a little smug. Great coat...but I could kick myself for not getting the hood, as well."

"I purchased my first Barbour in 1990, have worn it in conditions ranging from Chicago blizzards, Tokyo typhoons, pub crawls through London. I own no other garment that so perfectly fuses sentimental attachment, functionality and timeless style. I intend to be buried in it. "

"I have a hand-me-down jacket from my dad that must be 20 years old and it is still in great shape. Keeps me warm in all types of wet winter weather in the Midwest. This will be a jacket you buy for a life time and maybe even you son's life time!!"

"I bought my border jacket 14 years ago in Wales. I wear it to work every year in all conditions. There is not a better coat out there for stopping wind and rain. I build golf courses and spend all day every day outside. My coat was ordered larger so I can wear layers inside. I have never found a better top layer."

"I first became acquainted with Barbour jackets through my daughter when she was a college student in Scotland. After purchasing a Bedale, I've since added a Beaufort and Border. They are splendid and reliable garments in all weather conditions."

"The Border jacket I used was on a loan from a friend. Free armswing made it ideal for the morning pheasant hunt, durable fabric made it ideal pursuing rabbits through the thicket in the evening. I'm now looking to purchase a Border jacket for myself. "

"Last fall I purchased a Barbour Border Jacket from Orvis. I was looking for a spring and fall jacket that could stand up to the unpredictable weather that accompanies those seasons. What I found was an amazing and truly versatile coat that I love and wear as often as possible! I recommend the Barbour line to all of my friends whenever I get the chance. Thanks Orvis! Regards, Grant Minneapolis, MN"
