Felt like a kid again!,

"I wanted a rod to fish those high country New England streams with, and this rod is the one! At 1 oz. and 6' ,it goes anywhere you want to go.It casts a dry so delicately that those wary brookies didn't even know i was there. I christened this rod on the Little River in Huntington, Mass. and I wondered why I waited until mid-life to get a rod like this! Thankyou Manchester, you folks are the best!"

"This rod saves the day on small streams. When I fish small forest streams, I can actually get some casting done in the air rather than roll cast all day. Wind has a pretty drastic effect on this rod, but when it's used what it's made for, it's fantastic. Dries, of course, are super sweet to cast, but I can also cast heavy nymphs with pretty good effect. Thanks to this rod I can fish where other fly fishermen can't"

12" Wild Brown with the Trout Bum
"Superfine Trout Bum - 6', 4-piece, Full Flex 3.0 fly rod for 2-wt. line.
This Trout Bum is no bum when it comes to catching and landing fish. It certainly bums out the trout it catches, as this superfine rod combined with the CFO I reel is perfect for our WNY small/remote feeder streams that hold many many wild fish due to the lack of fishing pressure. These streams are very difficult to fish with their tight stream makeup of narrow width, overhanging brush & trees and hard to reach holes.
This rod & reel outfit is perfect for these delicate fishing situations and getting into these wild fish residing in these remote pools. It allows me to “troll” down stream and dap along the way and to get into where these wild fish hang out.
This rod has the heart & strength to handle and land fish from the small yearling browns to this 12” wild brown hanging out in a pool all to himself. I released him and will come back another day with my Trout Bum! With this rod added to my gear, it makes me a Trout Bum in that I would love to spend every day out on the stream with this great rod in hand hunting for these hard to reach fish.
This is a must have rod for those days when the larger streams are unfishable and smaller streams are ready and waiting for you to give it your best. Recognize the Orvis net used to land this beautiful brown?
Best Regards, Scotty the Trout Hunter"

"the rod is a perfect handcraft but it might take some time to reach the right control on the cast. Once done, though, a great rod to fly with the whole day long on streams and small creeks. Tremendous fun to fish on middle sized to small trouts, real sportive. Reccomended"

Great Little Rod!,

"I'd been looking at this rod for a couple years and finally had the chance to purchase one over the winter. What a beautiful bit of craftsmanship! It was intended for some of the feeder creeks near my home where the castings tough and the brookies hang out. Used it with a CFO reel three times now and the performance has been beyond my expectations. It can dap a fly at five feet, or throw a nymph 30 feet. The only fault I have found is that it does not have a hook holder."

"I used a 602-4 Superfine with BBSI this summer in northern Patagonia. An incredible fishing experience at rivers like the Litran, Pulmari, Malleo and Quilquihue. This gear is really lightweight and the cast is magic with good distance and accuracy presentation of the flies. I took several rainbows and browns , some of them over 3 pounds, and it was awesome. Since then this gear is my favorite for little streams and delicated flyfishing situations."

"I've used my superfine rod now for two years now,and am starting my third year of use. I am compleatly satisfied with it and the battenkill barstock II reel matched with it. mine is a 2 wt one ounce model. I wanted this outfit for about three years before buying it but couldn't afford it. when I saw my orvis shop owner again he told me the 2wt one ounce was discontinued. what a good person he is, he found me one in salt lake city, utah ordered it for me i'm so glad this rod didn't get away.by all means buy orvis if it's within your budget. tightlines everyone , Tumbleweed 83"

Beautiful rod,

"This rod has been a mainstay of my fishing gear. I have used this rod from tail water fisheries in the east to the streams of vermont and even out west to the Bighorn. This rod has performed flawlessly. Its perfect for Depuys and armstrong ranches. It presents small flies and protects 8x tippets. Yet it has the power to drop a fly perfectly at 50ft if you need. I would not give this up even if someone offered me 2X the price I paid. The rods personal best was a 24 inch grayling in Hylite lake (in MT) and a 3.75 lb cutthroat from that same lake! You wont be dissapointed!"

My Superfine 602-4
"Wow! Got my 602-4 Superfine 3 days ago and took it out yesterday for the first time. Got into a brown on the 3rd cast and it was on from there! What a blast I had with this little gem, light, precise and responsive. I was able to deliver line a surprising distance with excellent accuracy (often lacking in short rods). I own several small-stream rods and this has already earned a place at the top of my list! It's like driving a fine sports car, small and impractical for many things, but for what it is designed for it's PERFECT! You can spend more on a similar rod, but you won't get one any better. This one is a winner all the way."

Absolute delight to fish with,

"I can fish all day and not get tired. I can cast it as far as my Orvis 4-wt. with excellent accuracy. It's a thrill to land 12 to 14-inch native brookie, wild brown or rainbow. The thin line needs to be stretched before fishing to reduce kinks. One of the best purchases I have made."

16' Rainbow caught with a 2wt trout Bum Rod
(Click anywhere inside this popup to close it)
Tony Higuera and Outfitter Dave McKee with a beautiful DePuy Spring Creek rainbow cought owith a 2 wt. Trout Bum 602-4 Full 3.0 with a CFO reel.
"I caught this 16" rainbow during my Montana Fly Fishing Guide Training class April 9, 2008 in Bozeman, MT. The trout was caught in the famous DePuy Spring Creek in Paradise Valley. Rod used was a 2 wt. Trout Bum 602-4 Full 3.0 with a CFO reel. Fly used was a size 20 RS2. The guide instructor laughed when I pulled out my rod but quickly changed his tune when I landed this beauty. I even let him have a turn and he landed one for himself. This rid is fantastic. Great action and feel. Notice the full Orvis ensamble I am wearing: Silver Label 2 Stocking Foot Waders, Henry's Fork II wading boots, Superlight Series sunglasses, Green Zipneck Stretch Fleece."

"It is great to see the superfine rod line back on track! This 6 foot 2 weight (I use a 3 WF) is an absolute fun rod to fish with. Has backbone enough to handle any trout found in the small to medium sized streams where I fish here in the northeast. Outstanding from 30' in. Great to pack-in with as well. Good job Orvis!"

A Quick Favorite,
October 24, 2007
By:

"From the first moment I took this little gem onto my favorite, remote mountain stream, I was a fan. The shorter length allowed me to not only cast without worry of getting hung up in the trees or bushes (a big feat given my questionable casting!) but also allowed me to drop flies in under overhanging branches and other tough to reach spots that I never would have considered in the past, right where the brook trout and browns love to stake out. Plus with it's size and weight, it's a great pack in and pack out rod. It really allows you to explore some of those more remote feeder streams, that yes, do hold some terrific, beautiful and hard-pulling wild fish. More than anything, it's just a really, really fun rod to fish! It's quickly become my favorite rod to go to, hands down. Give it a try and you won't be disappointed!"

"This wee rod is the surprise of the Orvis line up. We have used it with great success for Brook trout on Alpine lakes here in Colorado. You can imagine my shock when a fiesty 20" rainbow hooked up on this rod. The full flexing action protected the fine tippet and I was able to land the large trout fairly rapidly and without difficulty. We decided to take the rod on a trip to Missouri to see how it would do with the football sized monsters down there. To our delight, my son caught and released a 4.2 pound rainbow on this little wonder. This rod has some real heart. Sure it doesn't zing line out a warp speed and there are much better big water/wind rods. But for the times when the wind is light and the fishing at a reasonbale distance this little tiger can do it all."

"I had the pleasure of using this rod at a local spring creek. Using a double taper line, I was able to present terrestrials to fish way up under the bushes. 10 trout and two hours later I was convinced that this rod is the real deal. Smooth casting and a pleasure to fish. This rod handled 18" fish with ease."

"I have to admit, when I first looked at and picked up this rod, it felt like a novelty. But, after casting it, I realized that I was wrong. I have many Orvis rods, including bamboo, and this rod may be my favorite! I can not only use it for fishing small streams, but can use it in larger waters, which is great when I only want to carry one rod. Orvis always satisfies!"
