Didn't live up to expectations,

"This has was great for about a month. After wearing it in the rain and working in for a month it was no longer water repellent. Also just regular use of throwing it in the car or taking it off bent the wire in the brim and I have never been able to get it to look right again. Go with a different hat."

"I bought this hat for a recent trip to Alaska. We had rain most every day, but my range hat was comfortable and protected me (and my glasses) from getting wet. I soon realized I didn't have to carry my umbrella which kept both hands free to use my camera. It also looked great."

"Gave several of these to friends for Christmas. All but one fit. Rather than return it, I decided to keep for myself and order larger size for my friend. When I ordered online, site advised in stock. When I didn't get email advising shipped, contacted Orvis and told back ordered. Then received email advising same and said would be shipped end of March. In early February, I checked the web site to find it in stock. Called and service rep told me it was in stock in my ordered size. I was told, however, that my back order would not be shipped until the late March date. My friend got his Christmas gift in late March because Orvis wouldn't send it when it came back in stock. We all really liked the hats, but I certainly didn't like the service from Orvis and haven't ordered since."

"I ordered this hat through my local Orvis retailer so that I could try it on before actually making a purchase. My local dealer went above and beyond to ensure that I had a great experience doing business with them.
The hat itself is well-made, sturdy, and attractive, as well as the real reason I got it: it's waterproof. Its darker brown than pictured, but that's just an incidental detail. I'm sure with a few months of going with me fishing, it'll fade a bit.
Bottom line, the hat is comfortable, and fits securely without the use of a chin strap, which, while it might be a nice feature for others, it would have been a deal-breaker for me. I use this hat anytime I'll be outside for a while, especially fishing, and so far it's been everything I hoped it'd be."

"bought it at my local store. it fits well and the price was right. nice wide brim. it's a bit on the heavy side
it is NOT water proof, not even close to water proof. the hat wets through even in light rain. i'm going to try using a wax treatment something like filson or barbour wax oh and when still kinda new, if you lay the hat on your car seat on a warm day the oil will ooze out of the hat and stain your car seat"

"Had the montana hat for two years now. I have never had a hat for two years.When the weathers bad, this is the hat I reach for. It is waterproof, stays on your head, and will get you compliments on it's good looks. even after I thought I lost it on a family camping trip. Found it when I got back home under the boats spare tire. Soaked it in water for a little while, stuffed the crown with towels and let it dry. looks as good as the day I bought it. The only way they could improve on this, would be to add a chin strap for horse back riding. It almost blew off on me."
