Hairs often get caught,

"I bought this hair stacker because the idea of having a clear window makes a lot of sense.
Unfortunately, hairs often gets caught inside the stacker in thin gaps between the clear window and the tube. When this happens the rest of the hairs do not stack properly. I don't know if this is a design fault or whether I have a defective example. I wish I had purchased the newer more expensive aluminum stacker. I am an experienced fly fisher and fly tyer and have purchased dozens of Orvis products, This is the first time I have been disappointed with an Orvis tool."

Good Idea ... But Somebody Dropped The Ball,

"I received this stacker as a Christmas gift (one that was on my list). I am new to fly tying and this was my first hair stacker. It came out of the box broken. By broken I mean that the clear plastic piece was not sealed to the base.
I called Orvis customer service about it. They first questioned whether it was indeed broken. Since it was my first stacker, I hesitated and let them talk me into not sending it back. Of course, if I did send it back I would have to pay shipping on something that came to me fresh out of the box broken.
It sits on my desk now as a constant reminder that even Orvis can "misstep."

"This is the handiest hair stacker I've come across! I have several, but the advantage here is being able to actually see the ends, and knowing just when you have evened them ALL up! No more grabbing the hair bundle and finding several hairs not tamped down, or tangled. You can watch the ends even up. A gem!"
