Wonderful hippers, October 3, 2009
By: troutfeeder from Virginia

"I do a lot of small mountain stream fishing in Virginia and Pennsylvania. These hippers are excellent for that kind of fishing. Excellent traction and not too hot when walking into more isolated areas."

"Bought the Orvis hip waders for a nine day fly fishing trip to northern New Mexico & southern Colorado. Mainly fished in medium and large boulder streams/rivers the whole time & didn't have an issue with either punctures, rips, or seam failures...ever. Cool! Did a lot of hard hiking down several canyons and through rough terrain with them on. I did go through quite a bit of brush when there was no other choice resulting in no damage to the waders. Fished continuously say 10 to 12 hours each day, and really gave them a workout. Green color was excellent. Liked the durability and boot hook attachment to cover laces on my removeable boots.

The only reason I give it a 4 star rating instead of 5 star is because of the hip straps. The hip straps tended to loosed on me every couple of hours, but then I hoofed it into a lot of difficult areas. That was the only time water would enter into them as they slipped a couple of inches lower than I was aware of at the time. The acutal issue is with the plastic cinch clasps on the straps as they don't bite into the straps as well as they could with a better design. However, this issue can be resolved by using safety pins directly into the hip straps, but still this shouldn't be an issue for the paying consumer....

Breathable material works well, and legs were cool enough in hot weather. No problems there.

I did a lot of initial shopping around for hip waders, and compared the Orvis product to slightly cheaper brands from other big box hunting/sports retailers, I'm glad I spent an extra couple of bucks. It was so worth it, as I kept dry all the time which just equals more energy/time for fishing.

Price was well worth it, and I'll continue to use and recommend them. Nice product, Orvis!!!"

Leak after using only 2X, August 21, 2009
By: Herb from San Francisco CA

"I love Orvis products but these hippers leaked in the stocking foot after only using two times. I purchased these for travel since they pack up very well and look great. My first outing was pretty good but on my lastest trip up to Washington they failed. I have contacted Orvis customer service and they offered to repair but can not see investing my time in a product that fails so quickly. All my other purchases with Orvis have been great. This may be just a faulty design."

Response from Orvis: By Orvis Technical Team, September 21, 2009
Orvis Customer Service contacted this customer and apologized that his waders started leaking prematurely. Orvis thanked this customer for the feedback and has passed these comments along to our wader developer, so that he may further investigate these durability issues.

Poor, December 27, 2008
By: PAtroutFisher

"I purchased the boot style hip wader at the beginning of the 2007 season from our local orvis dealer. I fish a lot, avg 100 days a year. The light-weight material was what drew my attention originally for mobility purposes. They lasted strong through that first winter. Then this spring they started really falling apart. I certainly expected more than 12 months of actual use from them because I take extreme care of all of my fishing gear. I never returned them because I didn't want another pair of almost $200 hip boots that both boots leaked heavily. I purchased two pair of Frogg Togg waders, a chest wader and a waist wader and have been more than satisfied with them."

Response from Orvis: By Orvis Customer Service Team, January 8, 2009
Orvis Customer Service immediately contacted this customer and apologized for the fact that these waders, in this instance, did not prove to be durable over time. Orvis also offered to repair the waders and thanked the customer for taking the time to provide this feedback.

"I just returned from a 9-day fishing trip along the Yukon River in the Yukon Territory. I used my Silver Label stockingfoot hippers every day in successful pursuit of actic grayling and northern pike. They performed perfectly, proved quite comfortable and durable, and were plenty warm enough in the 55 degree water. I paired them with the Orvis Pack & Travel wading shoes for an extremely light and compact package. Once on, I found myself wearing them the rest of the day. These will accompany me on all my future trips requiring airline travel. Thanks."
