Cut small,
February 1, 2010
By:
Ozymandeusfrom Northern NJ
"Loved the look and feel of these pants. Great winter weight and color is easy to match. Problem came when I tried them on. They were about two inches short in the waist, despite the label. Came in the same order with two other pairs of pants tht fit perfectly. Either they were designed to be small in the waist or mislabeled, they wouldn't work for me. Orvis took them back without question and refunded my money. I would have reordered, but the size on the pants should have fit, so I was not sure what to order."

"All my pants size 32 /30 and I have no problem to put them on. I bought 2 of these pants I couldn't fit. It feels like size 30-31? I still weare my old pants . By the way I did not gain any weight. I am thinking to return."

Great Pants but where is the jacket?,
January 21, 2010
By:
Suitman
"These pants are great. They look good, they're warm and comfortable, and they wear like iron. My only lament is that they do not make the matching jacket! If anyone from the company reads this please explain why you can't make a matching jacket and put it on sale."

Comfy and Warm for Winter,
January 20, 2010
By:

"These are the pants to wear outside when the temperature dips below freezing. The weave of the tweed is coarse but nice. Only drawback are the cheesy suede flaps on the pockets. Keep it simple, Orvis!"

Great Cloth, Poor Construction,
December 17, 2009
By:
nicholls911
"The Donegal Tweed is a beautiful cloth but the construction of the trousers is such that the waistband rolls showing the lining. It is a great pity. A stiffer waistband might help but I would leave that up to the tailors who have designed the trousers. It really needs to be fixed."

Disappointment,
December 11, 2009
By:
Marcellusfrom Charleston, SC
"Returning due to excessive pilling of fabric and stiching coming undone around the zipper. Very disappointed as they looked so good the first time I wore them. Very poor quality for the price."

Keeping warm at minus 40,
November 17, 2009
By:
Yukonnerfrom Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada
"I have been looking for pants like this for years and assumed they do not exist. North of 60 none of those summer wool pants can protect your legs in the frigit cold, not if you dislike long underpants. These pants are the ultimate solution for pants to wear to the office in the Yukon winter. They fit as if custom made.I foresee that they will last past retirement, which is still some decade or so to go."

Not the usual standard,
November 2, 2009
By:
Ofelas
"The pants took 7 weeks to arrive, and although Orvis informed me of the shipment at the end of September, another 4 weeks to reach me. I ordered the pants in size 36", usually a comfortable fit for me, only to find these are very tight indeed. The fabric is of acceptable quality, owning several Tweed products it does not compare favorably to the fabrics made in Scotland or Ireland, which are not more expensive! The quality of sewing and details are fine, the pants have a acceptable finishing standard.
Overall, the product and service is not the the usual Orvis spec."

Strange Cut,
May 1, 2009
By:
RedCRex
"I was looking forward to receiving these pants, so much so that I have kept them for a while with the hope I would grow to like them, but they are a disappointment. First of all, the cut/fit of the trousers is strange. I am 6'4" with a slender and muscular build and my pant size is 36x34, so maybe they fit better on other body types, but I found the legs to be much too tapered at the ankle and the rise to be too long. They fit reasonably well in the hips and thighs, but not in the seat or anywhere else. Also, the weave of the fabric is too loose while the yarn is too bulky. Finally, the "brown mix" has far too many colors in the fabric. They look brown on the computer, but there are lots of flecks of many bright colors in the fabric. The flecks of color make the pants seem a little loud. The pants are well constructed, but poorly designed. Mine are going back to Orvis."

My husband loves these pants!,
February 3, 2009
By:
mitibird
"My husband loves these pants because they are such wonderful quality and craftsmanship. Beside the great colors available (he will have every color you have with this order, so I hope that you have more colors next Fall), they have a tidy fit on him that I like. He seems to look very distinguished but relaxed in these pants. He says that they are comfortable for all day wear at the office, too. (It also doesn't hurt that they get him noticed by other scientific peers, salespeople, and others.) Hey, just because he's a guy doesn't mean that he doesn't have an ego! I like it when he looks good and knows it, even after 30+ years. Orvis, you have a lot of really nice clothes -- keep up the good work!"

Excellent Pants,
November 2, 2007
By:
Seanfrom Erie, PA
"I purchased the brown pants. Not being positive of my inseam, I ordered them a little long. The pants arrived and I was very happy with them. I took them to my neighborhood seamstress. She asked how much the pants cost. When I told her, she said, "Buy more of them". So I did, the charcoal ones. My seamstress told me she hasn't seen pants of this quality in years.
I like them, they are comfortable, warm and they don't itch. My wife says they look great, too. Made in the USA is also a selling point for me.
I would change one thing. Real leather of faux leather. Other than that, if Orvis makes these pants in a third color I would buy them too."
