Very disappointing, July 27, 2008
By: slmhobblet

"I received this as a gift because I am quite lightweight and have difficulty navigating swift flowing streams while fishing and/or hiking. I was thrilled until I tried it. Once you get it together, if any small amount of dust or grit gets stuck in the joints, it is virtually impossible to get it apart again. This makes the collapsible part of the design worthless for me. When does a wading staff NOT get a little dirt and grime on it? I finally sold it at a garage sale for $5.00 and bought a different telescoping wading staff I like much, much better. I've always had good luck with Orvis products in the past and advise Orvis to pull this product as it is not up to the typical Orvis quality."

"I was really disappointed with this product. Firstly, if the slightest bit of grit gets in the joints it becomes very difficult to put together - you need to wash out the joints before you assemble it - which if you are standing in 4 feet of fast flowing river is a real bore.
Secondly, the joints have an internal elastic cord which is knotted near the bottom section - and by the second day of use this knot had worked its way up to the joint between the bottom section and next section - and before assembling the staff the knot had to be fed carefully into the bottom section. Again not easy in a fast flowing river - so inconvenient in fact as to be pretty useless.
Finally, the staff is rather too heavy for wearing on a neoprene belt.
So to summarise, a really badly designed piece of kit - very unusual for Orvis."

waste of money!, May 19, 2008
By: pietro from Berkshire, England

"I think there is a design fault here. I bought one of these from the Exeter store when I was on holiday. The first time I used it it broke! The problem here is that the sections are tensioned by a length of elasticated cord. The ferrules are quite sharp though, so when ever it is pit together or taken apart, the ferrule rubs against the cord and wears it away...then it snaps and the whole thing becomes uselsss. Very disappointing, I will now need another trip to an store to get the money back and buy a different staff."
