not a good value,
June 10, 2009

"I used this staff for wading in our local river. The locking mechanism is problematic. If you extend the sections without having the locks completely loosened the plastic stops can wedge inside the shaft. The result is that the staff cannot be extended or retracted. I see that at least one other user had this problem. You may be able to resolve the problem by gently tapping the staff tip on a hard surface such concrete surface or a rock.
The second time I used the end of the staff broke off after it wedged between two rocks while wading. I am dissatisfied with the product in general for these reasons."

Good for a little while,

"I bought this last season. It was great. There are some slippery spots up here in Pennsylvania, and this gave me some extra support while I was about in the water. This season, on opening day, dad and I headed out to the river. When we got there, I no longer had a wading staff. I could not get it to extend. No matter how much twisting and pulling it would not budge. I loved it while it worked. I guess I have to go shopping again."

"My Orvis Telescopic Wading Staff, which helped me a lot of times, is no more. Cause: corrosion of the joints who make sure you can lock the staff. So, some good advice... take your wading staff apart after each fishing trip and dry off completely, escpecially the joints!"

not worth the wait,

"ordered this last Christmas on back-order to January, but didn't get it until April and had to keep inquiring. I thought it would be great for trips because it fit in my suitcase easily. Third time I used it, one of the "locks" broke and it could not be collapsed, so it had to be left behind in Conecticut as I could not carry it on the plane. This was my second Orvis staff. the first one has the cords, but the sections got so stuck, it would not separate and was awkward to assemble as it did not really "snap" into place. Only Orvis fishing products I have ever found inferior."
