And now for seconds!, March 1, 2010
By: BigBIzz

"Just bought my second jacket like this one from Orvis. The last one is still going strong but is not quite good enough to be worn out 'posh' anymore having provided many many reliable years of service. The old one is still intact and although a little faded and worn, continues to fit me like a glove and is easliy my best jacket purchase ever and by some margin! I know the new one will easily take me into my 50's with the last one serving me so well from my 30's to my early 40's! A great product and one that I will continue to wear for a while yet! :))"

I would have liked to have given it 5 stars, February 26, 2010
By: Shortwave from Falkirk in Central Scotland

"An excellent jacket but I have had to get the seam at the collar repaired due to the fact that hanging the garment by the loop had pulled the stitching apart. A bit disappointing as I've only had the jacket over a year and it's had fairly light use."

Instant Friend, February 19, 2010
By: WildDave from Myrtle Beach, SC

"This jacket has become an instant best friend; it goes with me everywhere. I've gotten a lot of compliments on it, so it must look OK. The quality is first-rate -- like everything from Orvis. The multiple pocket system is very useful... it even has a convenient pocket for my pistol. I'm considering purchasing the Bandera because of the similar design, but unlike the Zambezi, the leather prevents it from being an all-weather jacket; so it will have to be reserved for fair-weather wear."

FANTASTIC COAT, February 19, 2010
By: essayons from California

"I wear this coat everywhere I go. It holds just about anything I need. If I were to make any changes to this coat it would be baloon pockets on the outside and a zippered back flap for ventilation. Other than that it is a fine and usable collection to any mans wardrobe.

Regards"

Rugged, and almost urbane, January 31, 2010
By: natalew

"Although a recent purchase, I can already tell this mult-featured jacket will play a big part in my wardrobe, especially when traveling. The number of pockets, some with snaps or zippers, make this a near must for anyone who like me carries more electronics, guide books, and writing pads than is really sane. This jacket has a few faults, but it certainly makes for a snappier appearance than bulging pants pockets or, worse yet, nerdy fanny packs and belt clips. The fabric is sturdy, perhaps too much so, and will clearly withstand the insult of an inconsiderate fellow traveler who crams his/her carry-on into the overhead, on TOP of this jacket. It will wrinkle, to be sure, but it carries the look well.

Would-be buyers should know that the cut of this item is very large, so if in doubt order down in size. I have a trim build, and typically find myself between a 40 regular and 38 long; based on what other reviewers had written, I wisely purchased a 38 regular (no 38 long was available). Even at that, I would consider having a tailor take this in for a nicer fit, but for the complex inner structure of the jacket which would make alterations prohibitively expensive.

"Zambezi" implies an item that will do the wearer well in African heat, and here I must disagree. This jacket has a heft that is very suited to a North American or European spring or fall, but most owners will find this simply too hot for summer use, especially if one adds additional weight by taking advantage of all the pockets. In addition, the heavy twill has a stiff drape like denim, more like outer coat than a very casual sport jacket. This is an unfortunate limitation for a product that could have been, literally, more flexible. Other reviewers have commented on the desirability of Orvis offering this jacket in a "summer weight" fabric, and I fully concur. A lighter material would also have a less lumpy and slightly more refined look, extending its range into the occasional upscale restaurant."

Very good option, January 27, 2010
By: treeguy

"Love the Zambezi Twill jacket; just what I needed. Dresses up a pair of jeans. Fit is true to size and pocket system is great for travel. A little less boxy cut would be nice. Please offer it in another shade or two. While your web description suggests it as a great pairing for chinos, that is only the case with Zambezi chinos. Any others, the color is too close, but now quite right. A deeper shade would be best, maybe also a deep blue or green (olive)? If I had just one but in a darker shade, I'd wear it almost every day."

So far, so good, January 14, 2010
By: MrEric

"I just received the jacket today, and so far everything looks good. I'm 6'0'', 188 lbs, W34,L32, 42/43 reg, and my 42 R fits just right, buttoned or not. I had some concern that the patches and all might make it look too Land Rover-y, but it looks fine."

Good... with reservations, December 31, 2009
By: ChuckH from Jackson Hole and San Francisco

"I like the material and features of this jacket. I do not like the cut... the body is too short by a couple of inches. I suggest you order your size plus "Long" if that is an option."

Worth the money, November 25, 2009
By: solobear from Blacksburg, VA.

"I bought this jacket 2 years ago, and I loved it. It carried everything that I wanted, and still did not look all bulged out of shape when worn with the front buttoned.

My ONLY regret is that I lost so much weight that I "under grew" the jacket, (and the rest of my wardrobe) and now have to get a new one, as it would be about the same money to re-cut this one Saving the money is only increasing the anticipation.

In short, money well spent. I WILL get another jacket, and most likely the rest of the Zambezi line too."

The must have coat, October 21, 2009
By: Brooks12

"My wife calls this coat "The coat of many pockets" and insists that I where it for travel so that I can carry the passports, tickets, etc.

I have traveled all over the world with this coat which wears well in a wide variety of climates and enjoy it's comfort, durability and resistance to wrinkles. It works as well with a tie as it does with jeans and a tee shirt.
It is ,in my opinion, a must have."

Good jacket spoiled by dye running.. Orvis advice?, October 19, 2009
By: AdviceNeeded

"Good jacket spoiled by dye running, October 19, 2009

Good Value: 3 / 5
Meets Expectations: 3 / 5
Features: 4 / 5
Appearance: 4 / 5

I am in full agreement with the comment made by Tropicopter on June 14, 2009.

"The jacket is indeed a good travel jacket with plenty of pockets for every occasion. Sadly, the first time [I wash it at home, gentle cold water,] all the colour dye in the 'leather' patches ran and the jacket's appearance has been pretty much ruined."
Orvis should give clear advice if other precautions are needed or what to do to restaure the original color of the 'leather' patches."

Response from Orvis: By Orvis Customer Care, November 11, 2009
Orvis Customer Service contacted this customer and offered a full refund or exchange for this item. We also have passed the comments regarding the patches to our product developer for review and possible future improvements to the jacket. We value our customers' feedback; it helps us make sure an item is absolutely right. We stand behind all of our products with a 100% satisfaction guarantee.

The Perfect Travelling Jacket, July 27, 2009
By: Stravaiger

"I have had my Zambezi jacket (stone colour) for a few years now and It is my perfect travelling jacket for trips to mainland Europe. It is ideal for flying, coach and train journeys and is still the perfect jacket for going out in the evening.

I am saving up for a Bandera for winter gallivanting.

Don't hesitate: get one now!"

STILL GREAT AFTER ALL THESE YEARS, May 11, 2009
By: ALinSTL from STL

"GOT MINE AS A GIFT A FEW YEARS AGO & IT HAS HELD UP ADMIRABLY. I CARRY A LOT: 2-3 DIGITAL CAMERAS, PHONE, PDA, POCKET SKETCH BOOK, "ACCESS" GUIDES WHEN OUT OF TOWN, KEYS, SWISS ARMY KNIFE, SUN GLASSES, SUN BLOCK, ENERGY BAR, PENS/PENCILS, & WHATEVER ELSE I NEED FOR THE DAY (I PROBABLY SHOULD ATTACH RETRACTABLE WHEELS ON IT). WHAT IT DOESN'T HOLD, MY 15+? YEAR OLD ORVIS CAMERA BAG DOES...BOTH ARE FINEST KIND!!!"

Verstatile, durable and stylish, April 22, 2009
By: SpazMend

"Simply great. It can look 'smarter' than in the picture and works well with chinos. Has drawn compliments from colleagues. It is tough enough to cram into a cycle bag, or wear on a long-haul fligtl and still look OK at arrival."

Use those pockets!, February 23, 2009
By: Mackinac

"I've got a couple of items from the Zambezi group and they are incomparable. The potential uses for the jacket are almost too numerous to mention. Don't forget the style. This jacket will set you apart as a person of "individual" style and class."

Old friend, February 19, 2009
By: RonH from North East England UK

"I have worn this jacket for several years and although it dosen't look smart it does feel comfortable and cosy. It is rather warm during the summer (even English summers!) but still comfortable. Although there are plenty of pockets, some are too small for note books and if you store items in the lower inner pockets it inhibits the volume available in the outer pockets which are back to back. Great material love the leather but the elbow patches are too low down the sleeve for me. A good friend"
