"I did not buy this watch for my husband. I bought it for the back lighting feature. WhenI wake in the middle of the night, I like to know what time it is.
The face is a tad on the large side for me, but I do like to change watchbands, even though I may not be using the ones it came with. I prefer "preppy type" bands, such as plaids, stripes, polka dots, or frogs, etc. and lots of color.
P.S. I'd buy your Croc-print watch if the face lit up! I love the look!"

"This fit the bill for me -- inexpensive, attractively spare. But when it came time to replace the battery (after about two years) I had trouble reinserting a thin rubber gasket with the cover, and it was cut. I knew this meant that I shouldn't wear it while swimming, but didn't think water would penetrate from a shower. It did, and that was the end of that."

"I recently got this watch by mail order. The watch does everything it says on the tin and is ideal for use when fishing. It is also well priced. However, the supplied wrist bands do not even reach all the way round my 22cm wrists. My arms are muscular but not fat. I liked the watch so much I went out and bought a longer strap."

"I wear this watch every day to the office, but in a matter of only a few months, the olive-colored watch band was so frayed I needed to replace it. I switched to the black watch band (thinking the olive one must have been defective) and after only a few months, it too was extremely frayed. And that's after I was very careful in attaching the black watch band each morning. I can't recommend this watch unless Orvis improves the quality of the watch band."

"I received my Orvis Field Watch as a gift four or five years ago. It is my work/golf/casual watch and gets much more wrist time than the Rolex. It has been simply the best and most versital watch I have ever owned. I still use the original bands and wash them often. I guess eventually I'll need to buy new bands, but not yet. One word of caution. It you own an expensive automatic watch, when you but the Orvis Field Watch, you'll need a watch winder to keep the other one running."

"I have used this watch daily for four years. It is durable, reliable and looks like the day it was purchased. Styling is true to the original miltary design but it has been updated with calendar, backlight and accurate quartxzmovement. Easily changed nylon bands (three are included) are an added bonus. Perfect for travel and light in weight."

"The band would not stay attached to the watch. With certain activities, the pin holding the watch to the band would come lose and the watch would fall to the ground. I tried larger and smaller pins and even modified the band where it attaches to the watch and it continued to hav ethe same problem."

"This is a simple, rugged watch that looks good and has great features. It's a nice medium-sized watch (so many watches are oversized monsters these days) with a simple look. The case is rugged, the movement is Japanese, and the accuracy is good. The backlight function is extremely useful, though I suspect it adds about 2 mm to the case thickness. And that makes the case slightly too thick, in my opinion. Also, the supplied watch bands are horrible--total junk that frayed immediately. Still, a good replacement band is easy to find, and even with that added expense, this watch is a great deal."

"I have had this watch several years,it is totally reliable and rugged. I use it for cycling ,climbing , canoeing and everyday wear.On camping and boating trips I never take it off. It has been submurged in sea water hundreds of times. This makes the strap white, it only takes 10 seconds to change to a clean band if you need to look presentable. The nylon bands are easy to wash, having 3 is great. The light makes the watch perfect for all the above activities,you can easily see the time whilst still snug in your sleeping bag, no struggling to find a torch. The batteries are easy to replace ,which is good if you are away from shops."

The dial illuminator is handy and easy to use.
"I have owned my Orvis Field Watch for about two years, and although it's built for rugged activity, I wear it mostly for casual dress. Why? It's simplicity makes it very attractive. I know I am wearing a watch, but it's not heavy. Numbers are easy to read for baby-boomer eyes. The dial illuminator stays on momentarily to allow me to read the time in dark situations. The profile of the watch would be much lower if Orvis supplied two-piece bands instead of the one-piece version. The three bands that come with the watch are two, too many. I can't see me taking the time to change the band to match the color(s) of the clothes I am wearing. This watch is very dependable and accurate. I wish it came with a single one-piece band, either black, tan, navy blue or OD green."

"I have owned this watch for several months now and love, the lightweight design and durability in the field. The bright backlight is a great plus when waiting for shooting hours to start as well! I would have given this watch 5 stars if the bands were better quality. First, the edges of the holes punched in the bands (all three it came with) are not sealed well and as a result the nylon frays slightly each time it is buckled. I fear this will result in an enlarged hole over time. Second, the end of the bands are sealed but just barely. Thus, it also frays over time (granted I never take it off). While I was able to make fixes by slightly melting the edges a bit with a match, it seems like the bands should not have worn like this in a month or two of wear."
