"I have used this tippet with great success. I have had smaller fish break off with other tippet material but I have landed 21 inch browns with no problem on Mirage. The photo shows a monster caught on 5X Mirage tippet. And let me tell you he fought. I was ready to break off but there he was, in the net. Thanks Orvis for helping me land the big boys and making some of the best products available for fishing."

"I use this tippet when dead-drifting for steelhead. I mostly use the 2x and 3x and I have hooked many fish with it . I am very pleased with its performance. I would make a suggestion to Orvis to make the line retainer tighter. Once the spool is half empty, the line retainer becomes loose and the tippet can be accidentally unwound causing tangles..."

Super Strong,

"I started using the Mirage Fluorocarbon Tippet a few years ago. Now it is the only tippet material I purchase for all my fishing applications. Whether I am fly fishing streamers, dry flies, trolling Moosehead Lake for Landlocked Salmon, or ice fishing, it is the only leader material I use. It may cost a more, but how many fish can you afford to loose due to inferior tippet?"

Great for steelhead,

"I give the mirage tippet a 2 thumbs up. The 2x fluoro is perfect for dead drifting for steelhead. It is much more resistant to getting scuffed by the rocks and has landed a many of steelhead. While fluoro isn't cheap, at least you get an addtional 10-15 yards with Orvis."

"When your day on the water is not going as good as you had planned, all sorts of negative thoughts enter into your head. Is my fly choice wrong or are the weather conditions wrong, etc, etc. Be rest assured that your tippet material is good because this stuff is the best of the best....period!"

"Orvis has built the finest tippet material you could ever want to fish. It is way beond the others. I fished many of them.Orvis mirage is one great product. I bought other prouducts for less. I got less. As they say, you get what you pay for! I belive in Orvis as a company. Orvis just seems to cater to the more wealthy folks. I work hard for my money and i can not waste it. Therefore I buy only Orvis products that are well worth the money."

Excellent Product,

"This Product can't be beat the best PVDF on the market end of discussion. Highly resistant to abrasion holds a knot forever. Thin diameter is an understatement compared to the other lines I’ve used. Which is most of the current name brands. Virtually invisible in the water I’ve been using 6# test for tippet material and 4# test for dropper rigs this product can’t be beat for Lake Erie steelhead. Highly recommended"

Title speaks for itself,
March 19, 2008

"The Mirage line of fluorcarbon tippet materials is simply second to none. High abrasion resistant and improved knot strength moves this brand ahead of others in the field. For trout, don't be streamside without sizes 4X-7X from spring creeks to big rivers. Increases confidence in both beginners with inconsistent casting accuracy and the experienced angler seeking out wary trout on new waters."

"Everyone knows that flourocarbon works well on crystal clear streams, especially when the trout are at their most wary (sunny, low water, mid-day, later in season, etc). I like ORVIS' Mirage because it is very strong and not brittle, like some. At least, I haven't had it break. I tie the ORVIS tippet to leader knot which minimizes knot stress, thereby retaining strength."

"It might not be the cheapest but you get 40m. It's perfect for anything fished subsurface in either fresh or salt water. Knot strength is very good when using a Uni knot or Grinner, STAY AWAY FROM BLOOD KNOTS and you will be fine!"

Tain't cheap,
December 26, 2007
By:

"I picked up this tippet without realizing how much it cost and was kicking myself when I walked out and checked the receipt. Orvis should throw in a zero gravity rod and a dozen flies for that price. I saved it as long as I could but finally had to use it - tying my knots with the smallest tag ends imaginable. I have to concede that it is less visible in water (I tied on a dropper using super strong to compare them) and stronger at the knot, although I have yet to pluck up the courage to step down a size. Can't say yet that I'm catching more fish - I need to use it over a longer period."

A must-have item for selective fish,
October 14, 2007
By:

"I am continually impressed by how well this stuff actually works - and like most things in life, you get what you pay for. This stuff is a bit pricey but well worth it, you do hook more fish and you land more of them. The line disappears completely in the water allowing you to use one or two sizes heavier tippet that you would using conventional nylon. I typically only use this on wet flies as it typically sinks and will pull your dries down with it but below the surface it can't be beat. I have also found the material to be highly abrasion resistant, usually my flies need replacing before the tippet does."

"Year ago, I used Superstrong tippet material and other brands, and my fishing was good, but one day on a tournament I ran out of 5X tippet and asked for some to a fellow angler, he gave me a piece of mirage, and boy it changed the scores!! by that time I have released around 46 trout, and by the end of the tournament which was 2 hours later I had released 71 trout!!! That means more than half of what I have done in the previous 6 hours!!!! Since that day I have been using mirage and my bites had gone up substantially, great abrasion resistance even when fishing for big carp with rough scales that destroy other tippets!!!"
