"We were excited when the crates arrived. We are the Proud Parents of two Great Pyrenees dogs and had looked long and hard for crates that would look good.
Our dogs are not chewers so we hadn't aniticipated a problem. Within five minutes, the female was beginning to pull on the resin. No problem ... I marched out to our local hardware store to purchase plexiglass as suggested in your online ad (cost another $160).
Within a few days, I had her settled into her new home.
Until ... I hear the pitter patter of paws. She had popped open the latch when she leaned against the crate because the "tongue" of the latch does not extend far enough into the opening to secure the door.
I called Customer Service. They cannot send a replacement door and wouldn't promise that it wouldn't happen again with a different door.
Not sure what makes this a "Durable Crate"?
Very disappointing.
This crate looks good and would work for an older dog that wants a comfortable place to hang out.
It is not safe to leave your pet in this crate overnight or while you are out running errands."

"While this crate looks nice, I have had the same problems that several of the other reviews have had. For reference, my 80 lb lab sleeps in this crate every night on her Orvis Tough Chew Dog Nest. We purchased the XL size. After a year or so of use, the plastic floor mat has cracked into at least 20 pieces, and is totally useless. Had to be thrown away. The bottom of the crate is wire, so if the plastic mat cracks to pieces, you can't use the crate without a thick dog bed. The sides of the crate have also bowed out from our dog simply sleeping up against it. She does nothing in this crate but sleep at night. She has a different crate for day use. This would not stand up as a day use crate. Chose a solid wood crate if you are looking for a nice looking alternative to the wire crate."

It is handsome enough that we had a piece of glass cut to fit the top, and it also serves as a very nice end table between the sofa and the fireplace wall! We highly recommend this item."

"We purchased two and I will probably buy more of them, but the sides are weak and for large dogs that push up next to the sides we have had a problem of the sides breaking down and pushing out, eventually on one of them,it busted through. This was not from being agressive, but just the weight of a 70 lb dog laying next to the side. Otherwise eveything else is great about them and I think if the crate had an inner support system it would last a long time.
I think smaller dogs would probably be less a problem, but I agree that if the dog is a chewing dog, the sides make great material for chewing, so once again an inner structure would extend the life a long time."

"I purchased 2 of these beds 6 years ago for my dogs. My family and friends always comment on how well they look with our decor. They have held up exceptionally well, therefore my only complaint is that the bed liners have recently broke and I am having a difficult time finding replacement liners for the small dog bed. I would appreciate if anyone has any information where to find replacement liners, that they post the information. I am sure others would appreciate knowing too. Otherwise, in my opinion this was money well spent."

"Ive had this now for a couple of months, and Im very pleased with it. It looks good and my GSD is very happy to sleeping in it, she seems to like having her own little den - the pad also fits well.
my dog had an 'accident' in it after a general anesthetic - and pad and base were easy to clean.
Only minor complaints: - it turned up with a few screws missing - i think the latches are not quite long enough (my GSD could easily push it open, without effort)
but would still definitely recommend.
note: the XL is pretty big, with my GSD (slight small female) the L would have probably been big enough.... though im sure she enjoys the extra space."

"We purchased this handsome crate to keep in our office. After two years of very limitted use the floor has completely cracked. We even purchased the padding to fit inside. When I called Orvis about a replacement, I was told it would cost $25 plus shipping to replace b/c it had been more than one year. I purchased the crate at the high price of $269 because I believed Orvis would stand behind their product no matter how long... The flooring is cheap and defective. Everything else is very nice."

"I purchased one of these crates for my 7 year old Golden that had to be crated in the evening. From her just sleeping in the crate, both of them started shredding and fell apart. They look great, but if your dog sleeps and rests against the side of the crate, the weaving does pull off of the frame making the crate useless. I then purchased a second one thinking that this was a fluke, but it happened again and now I have two useless crates."

"My husband and I purchased this crate two years ago for our older dog and have loved it. So, we thought we'd purchase another for our new 4 month old Cavalier King Charles. He ate right through the side of the crate in 3 hours flat. There were hundreds of plastic pieces everywhere. So if you have a teething puppy, wait and purchase one later."

"I purchased the resin rattan crate about two years ago. It is much more decrative than a regular wire crate however I've had some problems. We had to replace the plastic floor due to cracking . Now the rattan is unravelling and bowing out on the sides. This has become an enticement to my dog who is older and not generally a chewer. I don't believe orvis is to blame I think its just the nature of the materials."

"I purchased this crate for my Golden Retriever. It wasn't difficult to assemble and it seemed comfortable for my Dog. The wicker was dissapointing. It really does look like (and it is) woven plastic. My dog who not distructive at all (he never even chewed as a puppy) found loose pieces and just pulled on the wicker, and pulled large holes with pieces of wicker all over. If you have a smaller dog, I would strongly recomend you choose the solid wood crate. If they had a large version of the wooden crate, I might consider it. But, If my non aggressive Golden, can make short work of that wicker, than your pup just might too. And I was concerned about him swollowing those long pieces of plastic as well. I ljust placed a large order with Orivs. I am a big fan of most of their products, just not this one."

"At last, a great-looking dog crate that is functional too. Being able to secure the door to the inside of the crate is a terrific idea - gets it out of the way and prevents the dog from being shut out of the crate accidentally. Both dogs liked the crate immediately. Obviously they have good taste! "
