"While this crate is beautiful, it's constructed of soft wood that is easily damaged. Our corgi managed to chew his way through it in just a few months. He was happy to spend time in there, just chewing to amuse himself.
We wrote to Orvis Customer Service to ask about the "100% Satisfaction Guarantee" that is touted on the website, and learned that this crate is not guaranteed against chewing. So we're out $250 plus shipping. One of the worst buying decisions we've made in a long time."

"I would like to add to the other comments on these great crates. In order to extend the life of these crates, I had a plastic liner made that goes up to the bars on the sides. I can pull the entire liner out to clean. It makes reaching to the back not a problem. On the door, I mounted a hard clear plastic sheet to protect the door and not be noticed from outside. I have had my 2 crates for 2 years and they look great inside and out. I love them."

"This grate is like a dungeon, you can barely see the dog inside. I’ll admit the quality is great, but the design was terrible. There is very little airflow, the slates are so thin that the dog can’t see his surroundings. Turned out to be a great disappointment."

"Had to figure out how to keep door open for return entry. Wood is soft and easily scratched, but a beautiful piece of furniture. On the X-Large the two door hinges are a little too petite, even a third hinge in the middle would add stability as the size of the animal is such that a strong bump can alter position slightly of the small, short screws holding the hinges. Product basically just about ideal with exception of some issues with the door."

"We purchased this crate for our 2 Westies. It is very stylish and classy looking and looks way better in our kitchen than a typical "wire" crate. The only negative is that there wasn't a non-slide crate pad and also the door doesn't stay open on it's own when it's opened. It keeps swinging shut. To remedy the pad issue, I've folded up a yoga mat that the dogs eat on and sleep on in the crate. For the door issue, I've just proped it open with one of their toys. I'd buy it again though."

"We have bought three of these dog crates, We have two toy poodles and one Jack Russle. They love these beds. They sleep in them at night and sometimes during the day they will also sleep in them. I would love to get one big enough for all three of them to get in during the day by my chair. Saving money for that. This is a really great dog crate. At least my dogs think so and so do we."

"My husband and I were in a dissagreement over which crate to purchase for our Puggle. I didn't want a wire or plastic crate which looks like a dogs bed. Luzzi likes to lay wherever we are siting. Being the living room was where we spent the most time I wanted a crate that would blend in. This wooden crate was perfect. Everyone is amazed at how this crate looks like another piece of furniture. Just a warning- Do not purchase a wooden crate if your puppy has not overcome his chewing stage or is not crate trained. As Luzzi was going through his puppy stage he chewed on the bars of the inside of the crate and clawed at the inside of the door. I chatted with customer service rep Ashley R. wondering if we're able to replace the door or the bars of the frame. She was fantastic; although the bars of the frame are not replaceable they are sending us a replacement door which should arrive in a week. Im happy with at least the door being replaced because Luzzi likes his blankets piled high so I can put the blanket over the chewed side and leave the "new " door open. Before I used to keep the door closed when we had company to cover up the claw marks.. Thank you Orvis; you are a wonderful company!"

"I purchased this crate for my cockapoo for Christmas because the crate she was in was small and ugly. This crate has become a piece of furniture in my living room. It looks great and my dog loves it. She has lots of room to stretch out and move around. I wish I had bought it when she was a puppy, but she is happy now. "This is a beautiful crate but the first day we put our dog in it he chewed right through the door! Unfortunately the wood is soft and easy for chewers. Our dog had previously chewed on his plastic crate but we thought that the wood would be durable enough to handle his bite. We are disappointed we made such an investment that only lasted one day. I would recommend Orvis selling the door of the crate separately so we could replace that and resell it to someone who isn't a chewer. Or, Orvis should make the interior of the crate have metal over the wood for more durability."

"This makes a nice piece of furniture, but NOT a good crate in which to leave your dog. This crate is fine as long as the door is open so your dog can view his surroundings. Dogs need to be able to see their environment. Also, you are not able to see the dog if the door is closed and run the risk of forgetting him and leaving him inside too long."

"The crate looks beautiful in our home, and we have received numerous compliments on its appearance. Because it is attractive enough to have in our living room, our dog is able to hang out in "her spot" while being in the center of everybody. She loves it! However, the crate is a bit small. Our dog was on the borderline for the size reccomendations. (between med and large) We opted for the large and found that it is still too small. We wish we could have ordered the extra large but our dog had already nibbled on the inside. So, if ordering, please size up. Also consider your dogs habits when you are away from home, ie: chewing."

"We bought two of these crates one for our 20lbs Minature Schnazuer and one for our 10lb Toy Manchester. Overall the product isn't great I love the metal floor however my dogs who aren't diggers have scrathed the heck out of the door when we come home due to the fact they want out. The other thing I am Really upset about is the fact that we bought this Tough-Chew beds (before the crates) and they do not fit into the crate without giving the dogs any room. I am dissatified that your dog beds do not have a satifatory one for my dogs and their crates. I would highly recommend that you put the metal on the door so the dogs don't destroy them and also make a tough chew bed for small dogs that will fit into this crate."

"I would have to agree with the other reviews that you need to order the large crate even if your dog is less than the 30 lb limit. Mine is about 23lb give or take (he is a healthy pug) but he can't turn around in the crate. But by the time you get it all put together and standing you don't want to take it apart and send it back. So needless to say we just keep the door open for him to go sit in it and come out. It's a good thing I didn't throw out the old crate so he has a place to be when we are not home. At least the crate looks good :) But definitely buy the large!!!!"

We have a 25lb border terrier, she couldn't turn around in the medium size, I had to pick her up and place her in backwards. "We purchased the medium size table. Overall good product. The floor panel is covered with a thin layer of metal which is a great feature. However the walls and slats are not covered on the inside and if this table is used for dogs they WILL chew the wood slats. Sugestions: Cover the inside walls and door with the same metal as the floor to prevent chewing and scratching."
