What a Great Sweater!, September 29, 2009
By: circleshooter

"I got my first Mechanic's Sweater back when the only available color was olive drab - and incidentally, if you're only going to have just one, olive is the color to get. These are beautifully made, comfortable, and warm. This has to be one of the most interesting sweaters out there and I get positive comments from both women and men just about every time I wear it. I like it so much that I added one in stone."

What a Sweater, September 23, 2009
By: stevek813

"I purchased this sweater at the Orvis store on Michigan Avenue in Chicago about 2 weeks ago. It is very cold in my office and I wanted something that would keep me warm during the day. I was lucky enough to go to Orvis on a day when the sweater was on sale at the store. While I was able to get a great deal on it, I would have gladly paid full price for it.

It's simply awesome and I have received more comments and compliments on this item than I have on any other item of clothing I own.

You can probably get a sweater somewhere else at a cheaper price but I can assure you, Orvis has the highest quality sweaters I have ever owned. I will be looking at others and will definitely purchase more. I'm looking forward to the cool weather so that I can wear more sweaters."

Classic Love Affair, February 10, 2009
By: Martini from Bremerton, WA

"For some reason, I seem to be drawn to military style sweaters and this is no different. I really like the look of this, especially the high collar. I have the olive color, which seems to be almost khaki in most lighting. I would prefer wool over cotton but this one doesn't itch. The cut is a bit boxy in the torso for me since I have broader shoulders and a narrower waistline. Shoulders are comfy and it feels flexible. Overall, I'm very satisfied and now I look like my dad in his old army photos (he was an army mechanic in the late 50s)."

Hope you know how to sew on buttons, January 7, 2009
By: larryhairynose from Gig Harbor, WA

"I had high hopes for this sweater. I read the reviews and compared this sweater to others similar style sweater that are out there. I purchased this sweater and within one hour the first of three buttons fell off. None of the six buttons on this sweater were sew on very well. Luckily I know how to sew on buttons. Another issue I have with the sweater is the color. The color of the sweater on the website does not match with the sweater I received. My sweater is more of a green brown (and changes color depending on the lighting) instead of the dark tan shown on the website. The last issues I with this sweater is how short it is, in both sleeve and waist length. I’m sure I can wash it and stretch it but still, for $99 dollars I’d like it to fit better. I am not sure if I will keep the sweater or return it. I just wanted to let you know what you are getting if you order this sweater (a short, button falling off, green brown sweater)."

Not just another sweater, September 8, 2008
By: Bakes

"I certainly didn't need another sweater but this one looked too good to pass up. After the first one arrived, I liked it so much I ordered another in black. The style is classic without being trite, masculine without being macho, warm without being stifling, and comfortable without...well just really comfortable."

Sharp.........But, May 7, 2008
By: Ribeye

"This sweater was purchased when it was on sale and have worn it many times. Just about every time I have worn this garment, have received compliments on the styling. The sweater does fit well, however I did order a size up due to my regular size was tad to tight. Th only suggestion I would make to Orvis is to offer the sweater in tall sizes. The garment tends to ride up when reaching for something."

Perfect!, April 3, 2008
By: Homefront

"You know you have a great sweater when not only the woman but men say " nice sweater, I like that".
Great vintage guy look, fits well and is my favorite for any fall /winter occassion. Go with the olive. . . there is a reason that's the color they highlight.

At-ease gentlemen!"

Wonderful design with some finish problems, February 6, 2008
By: Photojazz from San Jose, CA

"I loved the sweater when I saw it. Very classy.

here is the not so goo: Fit is a tad loose and sleeves are a bit long (I am a medium). Perhaps it shrinks a bit. Two buttons have started to come unraveled. What's up with the light beige buttons on the black sweater!? The navy, olive and stone have very color complimentary buttons and the black sweater comes with non complimentary, light tan ones. Lastly the bottom left corner looks like it might detach... Luckily Orvis will back the product and give me a new one, but it will be a hassle to arrange it...

All in all, I love the sweater, but am disappointed with the finishing touches."

great but flawed, January 11, 2008
By: timbo from Yokohama, Japan

"I admire Orvis. Living in Japan, they have delivered excellent garments to me. But... the Mechanic's sweater, although just what I had hoped for, had one fatal flaw.
The stitching. The seam on the left shoulder has torn. After wearing it three times in snag-free areas. I have a one-inch gap that was spotted by a chum while I was wearing it.
I am going to try and repair it now with my sewing kit. The thought of shipping it back to the US from Japan is not an attractive one. Happy new Year to all Orvis Fans. On a good note I contacted LIVE CHAT last night and had prompt brilliant service about another order. Bravo!"

WWII Sweater, December 7, 2007
By: Birdman216

"Great sweater. Saw it here and it looks exactly like the ones my uncles wore back in the 1940's. Now I know why they wore them, comfort, keeps you nice and warm, but, breathes. Ordered every color here."

Cool Birthday Gift!, October 22, 2007

"This World War II Mechanics Sweater turned out to be just what was needed, for my husband, on the trip that we took recently. Yellowstone etc were chilly enough for this to be ideal without having to wear a jacket. Thank you Orvis!"

Bygone era, October 6, 2007
By: Marci from Sacramento, CA

"I love this sweater. I bought one as a gift, and it's gotten a lot of wear. Since we both like "days gone by," this was the perfect choice. It reminds one of a bygone era, but doesn't look like a costume. The sweater is warm comfy. and wears well."

Warm and classy, October 4, 2007
By: jackson

"I originally bought this sweater to wear on a vacation in the mountains of New Mexico where it gets pretty cool in the evening. Not only did it accomplish the goal of keeping me warm on those cold nights, I also got plenty of compliments on it when I went in to town for dinner."

Best sweater, ever!, October 4, 2007
By: Sam1954 from Salt Lake City, Utah

"These WW II Mechanic's Sweaters are so excellent, I bought one black and one burgundy. They look cool, are warm, but not overly so as wool might be and fit comfortably-not saggy or baggy, and did I mention look absolutely cool!"
