Simon's HoverCrab

Simon's HoverCrab

The most deadly, imitative crab flies available. This saltwater fly suspends in the perfect feeding zone, unlike other crab patterns that sink rapidly into the weeds where fish can't see them. The fly can also be fished as a surface-swimming crab. Perfect for fly fishing bonefish, tarpon, and permit everywhere and other crab-feeding saltwater species, such as stripers and redfish. Color, Natural.Fly in sizes: 4, 6.

"WHAT I MEAN BY THAT IS I BOUGHT ONE TO TOSS OFF THE DOCK WHERE ALL THESE OTHER CRABS LIVE SMALL LITTLE BITE-SIZED CRABS,ANYWAY MY NEPHEW WANTED ME TO MAKE HIM SOME LURES IN HIS CASE SINCE HE USES A SPINNING REEL., WELL THIS PATTERN DIDNT HOLD UP WELL TO THEONE FISH IT LANDED OF COURSE HAPPENED TO BE A SHEEPSHEAD AND THEY BREAK EVERYTHING, AND AS A MAJOR FLY TIER MYSELF I SAID YEAH ILL MAKE SOME CRAB PATTERNS FOR HIM AND HIS BUDDY,THERE IS ALEAST AN 1/2 oz. OF NON TOXIC WIRE WEIGHT AROUND THE SHANK AND I ALSO USED A BRASS 1/4oz. BARBELL WHICH BLENDED IN NICELY WITH THE TAN FOAM,LOST THE RUBBER LEGGS AND NOW USING PIECES FROM WHITINGS 100''S FOR THE LEGS AND ANTENAE.DEFINATELY BEEN HOLDING UP BETTER,AND THE LAST PC WHICH IS NOT ON THE CRAB IN THE PICTURE BECAUSE ITS A TRADE SECRET ANYWAY THE HOVER CRAB DID ALLRIGHT AND INSPIRED ME TO EXPERIMENT MORE WITHE LITTLE CRABS ON MY DOCK,WHICH AGAIN THE FISH LOVE AND TO GIVE YOU A SMALL IDEA ON SIZE THE HOOK IS A MUSTAD34011."

A fly you must try in saltwater!, May 13, 2008
By: flyfishinguy11

"This is an incredible fly both in the tropics for bonefish and permit but also for striped bass along the atlantic sea coast.
I've had several tremendous days sight fishing to striped bass at Monomoy on this fly. Fishing it with a drop weight or small split shot anywhere from 6" to 18" up from the fly is important. The fly will rise up from the bottom and stay weed free. This is one to try! My only complaint is that they tear up quickly, but that is a very good problem to have. If you desire an olive crab simply use a pantone marker to change the overall shade of the fly."
