Overpriced for fabric used,
February 15, 2010
By:
OldGringofrom New Mexico
"All cotton construction would indicate that it is over-priced. For the inflated price $119 one expects a blended fabric. Perhaps 80/20 cotton/polyester for wear. Or, for warmth, a cotton/wool blend. But I buy outdoor wear for longevity as well as style.. this has style, but wear is accelerated by washing. Thus, my assertion it is over-priced."

Got a bit better than I expected,
January 25, 2010
By:
Rabbfrom Texas
"Held off buying as not a big fan of heavy cotton sweaters, but decided to try one and was nicely surprised. It is very warm, comfortable and looks really good, however, as mentioned in previous reviews, pockets are handwarmers only, and even small for that. I did not buy it for rugged or wet outdoor use, I have plenty of similar wool garments for that, so no problem here, however it does not hold its shape well after a few wearings, so good looks won't last before needs washing. Great for cold nights on the porch/patio. If you can live with limitations of cotton and the pockets a good buy, although price has gone up 20% since I bought two months ago."

Big Smiles,
January 22, 2010
By:
Bonnfrom Canada
"I gave this to my husband for Christmas and his face lit up with one of the largest smiles ever. I would buy another if he needed it, alas not now. Great product you won't be disappointed. Only concern I had was that it did not arrive before Christmas so I felt the delivery was slow."

Christmas Joy!,
January 19, 2010
By:
AZDesertDwellerfrom Tucson, AZ
"My teenager asked for ONE thing for Christmas, the sweater. He was so excited when he opened the box. The sweater if is very well manufactured. The lining inside is soft. It is very durable.
In the AZ desert, we do have some cold days/nights. He says wearing the sweater, you can't feel the cold. He wishes for more cold days/nights so he could wear it. He totally loves his sweater!
Thanks Orvis."

Disappointed,
January 18, 2010
By:
Clyde
"The general appearance of this item is great. But it is so heavy that I could hardly bend my arms. Surely you can figure out a good compromise between warmth and ability to move when wearing this nice-looking sweater.
I am returning item for credit."

Love the sweater,
January 14, 2010

"I love the sweater and it is very warm. A previous reviewer mentioned zippered pockets and I agree that would be a great additional feature. That would elimate the fear of losing cell phones. Perhaps an interior pocket that zips also."

Suprisingly Warmn,
January 3, 2010
By:
CincinnatiTravelerfrom Cincinnati
"This sweater is surprisingly warm. Went outside this morning, 10 degrees. Hat, jeans, gloves, Orvis short sleeve Signature Polo and this sweater and I was comfortable. The only improvement would be zippers on the pockets. An added bonus is my wife likes it."

Nice sweater,
December 12, 2009
By:
Kraizafrom New york
"The sweater is nice looking and feel good one. I didn't buy it for hunting. I use it for a under my jacket for shooting clays. I also use it for just around the house and going out to the club. Cotton is not good when it rain and I know it. So put a rain coat on if it raining."

Not a Bad Sweater,
December 8, 2009
By:
BrookylnandNewHaven
"This is a warm, comfortable sweater. It is not overly heavy, nor is it too bulky. While the pockets are not designed well to hold glasses, money, and the like, they are good hand warmers. A few other things should be noted. After it has been worn for about a week after being returned from the dry cleaners, the sweater does get a little baggy and stretched in the cuffs and in the front. The zipper has been a bit of a problem, because (inexplicably) it has a double zipper (one facing up and the other down). It has been somewhat difficult to line these up (especially in the cold while wearing gloves. Last, this sweater works best as a layer under a waterproof coat or as a top layer for dry conditions (it actually works best as a top layer while reading a book by a fire while drinking 15-year-old rum if you really want to know). I would absolutely not wear this out in very wet conditions as the cotton material (as was mentioned by another reviewer) would get waterlogged immediately.
Overall, I am very happy with the purchase and would recommend it to others."

Great Sweater Useless Pockets,
May 6, 2009
By:

"The sweater is great but the pockets are useless - shallow and vertually horizontal, ejecting everything that you put in them. It needs zip pockets."

Why Cotton?,
February 5, 2009
By:

"Billed as a rugged outdoor sweater, yet made of cotton, which is totally worthless when wet. Make it in wool and I'll buy a dozen."

Orvis Customer Service immediately contacted this customer and thanked him for taking the time to make this suggestion. The customer’s preference for wool over cotton has been submitted to the Product Developer for consideration.

GREATEST SWEATER EVER,
January 18, 2009
By:
DWLangfrom Bartlett, IL
"Not only does this sweater look great, it's the warmest and most comfortable sweater ever! The inside lining is soft and comfortable and the entire sweater is warm and has some weight to it. I love wearing it as a sweater and as a liner under my leather coat for cold Chicago winters as the sweater zips up nice and snug around the neck."

Great Sweater! Nice Fit!,
November 10, 2008
By:
BusinessTeacherfrom Charleston, SC
"I have a short but very stocky build. I don't like tight fitting clothing but I hate it when I have too much excess "hang". I purchased the 2XL sweater and it was a perfect fit for me. Warm but not hot; heavy but not bulky. Casual but has a very unique/distinct look about it. It seems very well made. I'm sure I will get a lot of use out of this sweater this year! Already plotting my next purchase . . ."

My Favorite Sweater,
September 17, 2008
By:
wrbtufrom Long Island
"I own over a dozen zip or button-front sweaters, from various companies, but this is by far my favorite. Not only that, it's the best item I've ever bought from Orvis! It's unbelievably comfortable. The inside is lined with not just any sweatshirt cotton, but the softest cotton I've found in a sweatshirt material. The fit is relaxed & not restrictive. Nice touches are found in the elbow patches, two-way zipper, & side pockets. I have it in olive, & this year I'll be buying the black one, too, unless Orvis comes out with a khaki color (hint to Orvis). It's worth more than the $98 they charge for such a well-made, comfortable sweater."
