This high-visibility fluorescent orange flyline backing lets you see the backing in the water when a big fish takes out line in a hurry. Tested extensively by Orvis' saltwater guides, who found the flyline backing helped them know where a fish was and when it was changing direction. The round Dacron backing won't rot or mildew and stores well on the fly reel. Flyline backing available in 20, or 30 lb. test.

Let it bleed...,

"Be aware that this backing will bleed orange dye the first time you rinse your reel. That dye will transfer to your fly line, which may be no big problem but thought you should know."

See It!,

"Fly line comes in various colors as well as clear, so why not the backing? Hi-Vis backing is one more tool to ensure success on big water, not too mention the fact it makes distinguishing my saltwater spools from freshwater that much easier!
For the extra $1 or two for a couple hundred yards of backing - nil when I loaded up a new reel with line and backing - its a nominal investment that pays a dividend, and in this economy, how can you beat that?!
Hi-Vis is the ticket when Tarpon or Bones are taking your backing half the length of a football field or more..."

great product!,

"I live in Arkansaas. We do have really great trout waters! I fly fish for trophy rainbows. The deal is when you hook in to a large fish(any kind) you need backing for those long runs! You need to know when the fish hits the backing! This Orvis Hi Vis backing is what you need. You can see when the fish changes his directions. This is a product that is worth more to you than the cost! I feel that it is a must for fly fishers. I mean just look at the price! This is is a good product."

Specks like this rarely take you into your backing
"Everyone is into gel-spun or other 'specialty' backing, but for my 3-wt and 4-wt rods, 20lb dacron is pretty much all I need. I like this new fluorescent orange mostly because I can see where the backing starts, and it looks good on the spool. I use an Albright knot to attach it to the line."
