Met my tuff standards., August 22, 2009
By: Franz from Fort Collins, Colorado

"I bought the Gokey product for one reason and that was to wear them all over the world until they were completely worn out. My Gokey Oxfords have been to the top of 14,000 foot peaks in Colorado. They spent a year in the south of France on some of the most unforgiving rocks anywhere and then gone on hikes through the Alps in Switzerland. I have hiked sea side trails in Italy, walked through the mud during rainy season in India and stomped around the mountains of New Zealand. They have been to the Outback of Australia and I have walked down the cobbled streets in Istanbul. I have to say my shoes look wornout after wearing them for 10 years. I will need to throw them away and order a new pair as these are now not worth repairing. Great shoes and I guess I need another pair and will start planning another trip with my new Gokey's."

Wonderful!, April 21, 2009
By: Candid from Southern Indiana

"Everything I expected and more...
Surprisingly comfortable right out of the box - and they only get better from there. Very attractive for almost every circumstance with a "classic" look. Durable and well made - one of those items that is nice to own, to appreciate, and to wear because of the obvious quality of materials and construction.
Yes, there are many shoes out there that are lighter in weight - but even as a relatively small person I have found that the comfortable support these shoes provide more than compensates for any additional weight that comes from the substantial leather and sole.
I would buy all my shoes from Orvis/Gokey if they just made dress shoes, sandals, etc.!
One of the best purchases that I have made for years..."

Great Shoes!, March 4, 2009
By: duluthjacket from Duluth, GA

"Ordered a pair of Oxfords from the local store (free shipping - yea!). I was concerned about what size to order, and was told they would be true size. So I ordered my size (11 - 1/2D) and they fit perfectly. Need a little breaking in, but they are almost there and they look great. They do have very little padding, but that would be easily resolved with a cushioned insert. The apparent lack of cushioning has not bothered me, as I've had them on all day for several days, and my dogs have not been barking at the end of the day. Wish I had bought them sooner."

"Guess my first review did not pass the Orvis censors. I called by phone to order these shoes. The representative assured me these shoes ran true to size. I wear the same size in all my dress and sporting shoes. The Gokeys ran at least a full size small. I had to wedge my foot into the shoe and never attempted to tie them. They are extremly stiff but one would expect this from Gokey. One shoe weighs as much as the pair of the boat shoes I wear.
They do look good. Shipping must be a profit center here. I dislike paying exorbitant shipping to me as bad as I dislike to pay return shipping on a bad recommendation."

"Just received a pair of the Gokey Sauvage oxford. I ordered them in my normal shoe size after a chat rep. told me that these shoes run true to size. I wedged them on with a shoe horn. Too narrow, too short, and too tight across the top of my foot and they were not even laced up. The leather is as hard as the Gokey snake boot and there is very little cushioning for the sole. The only positive thing that I can say is that they look good. I also feel that Orvis should not charge a return fee if the fault is theirs."

worth the money and time, October 4, 2008
By: knldgskr from Pretty Marsh, ME

"I have had a pair of Gokey snake proof boots for 47 years but now my life is changed so I needed a pair of walking shoes. As a Gokey fan, I tried their oxfords. It takes a while to break in the oxfords (about 20 miles) but then they are the most comfortable waterproof walking shoes you can get."

"I have wanted a pair of Gokey Oxfords since I first saw a pair in 1972. They are everything I had expected them to be - comfortable, rugged, good looking. I will never be without a pair the rest of my life."

Best shoes I have ever purchased, October 9, 2007
By: Flyer from Coastal North Carolina

"These are truly the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn, and if Orvis sells them, I know they had to be top quality. I give them a five star rating in fit,
comfort, style, durability, ease of maintenance and
value. I feel there is no better shoe at any price!"

"My dad bought me a pair of Gokey boots in 1969.Put my foot on a legal pad, used a pencil to trace around it, and sent it to Gokey in Minnesota. It's now 2006,they fit like a glove. Still have the original soles on them. I thought they were expensive in 1969. Do the math, I still can't wear them out! I don't need to justify a new pair for my 15-year-old son. These, bar none, are like a fine shotgun, they get better with age. Just like a Model 21. Thanks Gokey!"

"I am still wearing a pair of Gokey tall boots that I bought in 1964, when I was at college. I wish I was doing as well as the Gokeys!"

"These oxfords are terrific. Sauvage Oxfords are comfortable and long wearing. I usually buy a couple of pair - one for use and one to save in case these incredibly long wearing oxfords are not available in the future. I highly recommend them."

"I have a pair of these on right now that I have worn since December 1981. That is 21 years. They are some of my favorite shoes. I got them my freshman year in college. Nothing other than these shoes still fit me. Can't be beat!"
