"While bonefishing in Islamorada, FL, we ran into a school of a dozen Permit swimming a channel waiting for the falling tide to bring food off of the surrounding flats. My buddy hooked a live crab on a spinning rod and I quickly tied a size 4 Merkin on my 10wt. Half a minute later, we had a double; one on live bait and one on a fly. As a novice Permit fisherman, this fly was my first choice and proved to be just as effective as a natural. Maybe more, as my fish was the bigger of the two!"
