"Just received my Gokey Sauavage Hiker, very promptly. They are a refined hiker, not technical but very high quality leather. They look great and feel even better. I will have these a very long time and they will just get better with age"

A beautiful pair of boots.,
February 3, 2010
By:

"I have owned the SauvageWalkers for several years, having received them as a Christmas gift from the family after some not-so-subtle hinting. They are beautifully made and have the look of custom hand sewn boots. They fit great in my own size but the stiff sole limits their natural flexibility . Adding a footbed makes them fit too tightly. To make a great boot even better, should like to suggest you make them with a flexible Vibram or other cushioned sole. That said, I will never give up these boots. They are are just too nice a USA made product!"

Outstanding workmanship and lbut poor foot support,
February 3, 2010
By:
CRDDfrom Houston, TX
"I do a lot of hiking and was looking for a boot that had some innersole cushion support. This boot definately has none and compared with other top-of-the-line hiking footware I've owned, I was really disappointed. For the price...I expected something better than a hard leather base. I would not recommend these for anyone who requires any level of foot support."

"I've owned a pair of these hikers for over ten years and they just get better with age. I'll soon be 69 years old and I wish I had discovered them long before I did. They are my favorite shoes for daily wear. I walk a lot and I don't think I'll ever wear them out."

Had challenges with the fit,

"My father had a pair of Gokey Sauvage Hikers 35 + years ago which at 81 he still wears today. I always wanted a pair and finally got around to ordering some over the holidays. The online product description clearly states that this boot runs narrow. Trust me, they run narrow! I wear a 8.5 C in a nice dress shoe, so I ordered an 8.5 D and an 8.5 E. Unfortunately both pairs were very tight across the top of my foot/ankle where the shoes laces are. I am aware that for an extra $50 I could have ordered a custom fit pair, but already felt a little stretched at $198. The other negative is that the boots are very heavy. On a positive note, they are the best looking pair of boots you can imagine. The quality of the leather and the stiching and all around craftmanship is amazing. I really wish they would have been lighter and fit."

Sauvage Hikers & Oxfords,
December 28, 2009
By:
Crusher00from Seattle, WA
"I own 2 Sauvage Hikers & 1 Oxfords for over 5-10 yrs & they still look new. The Leather is the best I've seen, it does not get scratched like the rest of my shoes & boots.
There is no insole or arch support. The fit is snug, so I would order 1/2 size longer & wider or full size larger if you want to add insoles. Next time I will order Custom Size EEE.
I do not like the Gro-Cord Soles. They are very heavy, hard & have no cushion. I will probably resole them with a Vibram work boot soles."

Not Very Happy,
October 23, 2009
By:
WayPlmbfrom Upstate New York
"I sent an e-mail asking if the shoes were leather lined and when I didn't get a response when I wanted to order the shoes I did a live chat and was told the shoes were leather lined and also when I placed the order I was told they were. The next day I received an e-mail response saying they were not. Since they were ordered I decided I could live without the lining. When I received the shoes they fit well and seemed good but just recently my wife noticed the shape of the toes of the shoes were different. One was narrower than the other and quite noticable. Unfortunately I wore the shoes or I would have sent them back. I try to buy American when I can and was happy they were made in the USA and they appear to be well made with the exception of their appearance."

"I have owned my Sauvage hikers for over two years am ready to write a review. I am extremely pleased with the fit and durability of these shoes. I have to admit I take pretty good care of them because I like their performance so much and they look so nice after a little shine. I purchased a pair of Gokey boat shoes and a pair of Gokey upland boots after being so pleased with my sauvage hikers."

there are no better,

"I have always considered that given how much time we spend on our feet and walking, having the best shoes is very important to health and well-being. So I have always sought and bought the best, up to and including two pairs of English hand-made custom triple-welted veal "veldtshoen" that I bought in London 30 years ago, one of which I still wear.
I bought my first Gokey Sauvage Hikers at Orvis Manchester VT about ten years ago and wear them here in upstate New York several times a week from autumn until early spring. At the same time I bought a pair of Gokey moccasins that I wear almost daily most of the rest of the time. I just had the moccasins resoled by Gokey (for most modest $50. chanrge) and they look close to new. These are the best-made, strongest and most comfortable shoes I have ever worn."

"I have owned a pair of Sauvage Hikers for 25 years. During the past 18 years I have lived in retirement on a lake with with good fishing and hunting at my doorstep. The Sauvage Hiker has served me well from sports to construction not to mention going to town on a wet or snowey day. It's a great shoe. My Sauvage oxfords are equally satisfying."

"The best all purpose shoe you will ever wear. Period. The Sauvage Hiker has kept me on my feet for all of life's most important moments - weddings, funerals, graduations, duck blinds, and grouse coverts. Like an old and trusted friend, Gokeys simply will not let you down. The pair I've got on right now is the same I've worn daily for the last five years! How many "tech" shoes can you say that about? Viva la Sauvage! "
