"I bought a Clearwater I several years ago after I had learned how to cast with a cheap rod and then decided to upgrade. After breaking this rod in the backcountry and being issued a replacement, I received a Clearwater II.
It is my primary warm water rod and I have it paired to the older (2006) BLA II reel. It's an excellent outfit for casting to smallmouths in creeks. I have also landed some fat carp without any issues.
This rod has gone all over the country with me as a back-up, and I have taught many friends how to cast and fish with this very rod. The best part of owning this rod, however, is that when a 15 lb muskellunge breaks your rod in half, Orvis will replace it for a few bucks in handling and shipping fees."

Best Overall Rod For The Price,
August 25, 2008
By:
fishingheatherfrom Atlanta, GA
"I recently saved up money to purchase this rod and hands down it has been a wise investment. Price was a major concern for me and this rod has the best bang for the buck. The rod is extremely light and well-balanced. I use this rod on the Chattahoochee River in Georgia every weekend and I love it. I have the mid-flex and it is a good all-around do everything rod. The rod has so far taken some serious abuse, since I usually back-pack to my fishing locations. It's also great piece of mind that my rod is covered by a warranty--I have shopped around and very few rod companys have this feature. A nice addition is the rod holder/protector that comes with the rod (it protects the rod very well during my hikes) and the excellent customer service at my local Orvis store. Keep up the quality products....you have another loyal customer!"

Montana,

"Picked up this 5wt for a two week trip to Montana. It handled everything from tossing big golden stones on the Big Hole to floating tiny nymphs under an indicator on the Beaverhead. Even lent it to a friend for a day and he couldn't believe how well the rod fished. Even the rod tube is a beauty. Nice job on this."

Great Rod!!!,

"I am very pleased with this rod!!! Less than an hour after recieving it I had it on the water. I have fished it for three days now throwing a wide variety of flies. It's very sensitive, smooth casting, and presents my fly very well. It also loads well and can easily shoot out a lot of line on longer casts. It is easily one of the best casting rods I've ever used. I would recommend this rod to anybody."

inexpensive.......but not much more,
June 8, 2008
By:

"I bought this on impulse thinking it would be good to keep in the SUV......just in case. Unfortunately I think that's where it's going to stay. It get's 2 stars for being inexpensive but not much else. I've fished it 3 times and it feels like I'm throwing bricks. It's almost impossible to turn the leader over in any kind of wind throwing a nymph. Spend the extra money for the T3 or Zero Gravity, even if you just want an emergency rod."

Outstanding Value,

"I recently purchased this rod upon a recommendation from a friend. You won't believe it until you cast it !!! This rod is light to the hand and has a wonderful feel. It loads and unloads with smoothness and accuracy. It will easily shoot 60 feet of line as well as delicately present your fly. In my opinion, the is the best rod on the market for under $200. It casts like a much higher priced rod!! Way to go Orvis!"
