"I took the trip of a lifetime with my 3 brothers and a cousin to Beaver Head, Montana the last June. I took my 7wt Clearwater Rod and also used the guide's 8wt Clearwater II rod. Both rods performed very well, but the double flared 8wt handle was much more comfortable with larger fish. I highly recommend having an 8wt in anyone's rod collection if you have any thoughts of catching larger fish! Wow, what a fun trip and a great rod."

"I bought this rod for inshore fishing and have not been disappointed. The Mid Flex action has the power needed for long casts when blind casting in the surf. But really excels when sight or structure fishing where pinpoint accuracy is priority one. parred with a battenkill mid arbor reel it is a great outfit for inshore fishing. Not quite as important, the rod is also very hansom. For the price this rod can't be beat!"

"I bought this rod for fishing for the big and the uglies.It has proven itself to be a very reliable and powerful rod.Its light enough it won't burn out your arm casting it hours at a time.It also has the power to turn large flies.I have used it with great success on Tiger Muskies,Carp and Bass.Alot of these fish were very hard fighters.Most of them would have broken my 6 weight I usually use.But this rod has held out to some brutal fights.Thank you Orvis for a very tough and affordable quality rod!"

Excellent Beginner Rod, June 20, 2008

"I purchased this rod to use on a boat in the Delaware River fishing for River Striper and Small mouth. As I am a beginner, my casting skills need work. This rod helps me shoot the line twice as far as I was with other rods. It is light and accurate and has enough punch to throw the big bass flies through the wind to the target. If you are looking for a great rod for a beginner caster this is your rod."
