Very Functional,

"I recently received the Battenkill Overnight Briefcase. I am not so sure that I want to use it as an overnight bag but more in the line for work and carrying my laptop, books, etc. in it. The briefcase is very functional and versatile and has plenty of room for what I need it for. I've received quite a bit of compliments on it and don't think that something like this will go out of style. I do plan on buying the rest of the Battenkill line. Great product Orvis. Thanks for the speedy delivery! This has made an excellent Christmas gift to myself!"

Good, but not Great!,

"I have had this bag for 3 years and have used it on a daily basis. It has held up well and has a very good look, even given the "miles" on it. I really like this briefcase.
However, I have had two problems...the last one deadly... The first problem is the floppy interior dividers which often impede putting things in the briefcase. Inconvenient, but not a killer.
My recent problem is the zipper. On the large compartment side, the plastic zipper has failed on the corners, rendering the bag unusable. Two local shops say that it is functionally and economically unrepairable.
The interesting part of this is that on a $200 bag, the manufacturer used a $1 plastic zipper. Even more interesting is that on the small pocket on the front of the bag, they have used a durable brass zipper!....???? Why???
I read with interest about the floppy handles on this bag and the bullhide equivalent. Apparently based on the reviews, and on the product pictures, there is no longer the snap wrap that holds the two handles together as on my bag of 3 years ago. The discontinuance of this useful feature is puzzling...???

"I have had a Battenkill duffle for 20 years and it still is in good shape so I bought something that I wanted to last. to replace the Sampsonite computer bag that I have had for 7 years.The bag looks great and is not too heavy even when it has my laptop in it. I feel confident that it will be able to handle the 75K airplane travel miles I will put on it annually"

"I have now had this bag for the better part of a year and far from finding any flaws I am now convinced that this one of the best looking most practical bags around. Not only does it look better the more one uses it is also so useful that one cant imagine life without it. The compartments are exceptionally well though out and one can adapt to most purposes. The only suggestion for improvement I could come up with is to figure out a way to comfortably be able to shorten the carrying strap. Currently the leather pad is clenched between the attachment loob and the D-Ring and not in the middle of the strap. This is a great product, you will not be dissapointed."

"Even thought it was an expensive purchase at the time the briefcase was used daily in my teaching career for 20 years. Now that I have retired it is still being used but now as an an overnight bag and range bag for my hobby and it still looks like stylish and in great condition. What a useful purchase!!!!"

"These Battenkill products are. I purchased the overnight brief case and have taken it across the pond several times as well as across the country and it is a solid tough case with good design and good looks. It is a tad on the heavy side, but that is a small price to pay for the heavy duty quality you get. I returned to Orvis and purchased the carryon roller bag and it works great also. The only bad news is I won't be back for more as I am set for life! Thanks Orvis for finally delivering a quality product at a fair price."

"i completely agree with Human2008. it's a great product. Mine is almost 9 years old and still looks great after daily use and hundreds of business trips. I do need a new shoulder strap to keep it looking good, though. Any advice, Orvis?"

"I have owned this briefcase for about 17 years and taken it on an extensive number of domestic and international business trips. Even after all of this time, the integrity of its structure and looks have survived very well. I still receive compliments on it. The strap finally started unweaving this year and Orvis is working with me to replace it. Couldn't ask for more! And it is fabulous to be able to carry personal and business items in one carry-on bag."

"My wife bought me the bag as a college graduation present, I absolutly love the bag. Im on the road about 1 out of 2.5 days it has been all over the U.S., Canada, and Mexico and hasnt let me down yet. I use some saddle butter about every six months on the leather. By far it is the best gift anyone could recieve that is entering the business world or in the business world."

"Orvis Battenkill luggage is so well made & attractive - it's emotionally disturbing for those who admire it....but don't yet possess it. On a recent flight to Hawaii I had no less than 5 admiring Battenkill comments & as many craned necks trying to get a closer look. Owning Orvis Battenkill gear is functionally "The best" & visually...simply killer. Battenkill luggage wouldn't benefit by a peer review because it has none. Thanks Orvis."

"I have been a big fan of Orvis since my first visit to the store in Manchester, visiting family friends in Sunderland (just next door). I had to get this briefcase immediately! It has been a very reliable bag for business and for short travels. I "tried" all these modern, black ballistic nylon briefcases. This Orvis briefcase is definitely more my speed. Thank you, Orvis!"

"I've used this briefcase for over 15 years and it has proven to an excellent travel companion. It’s logged a ton of air miles, survived baggage handlers and overheads, and just keeps coming back for more. Last year I sent it back to be reconditioned and with the exception of some "character marks" on the leather, it looks and performs like new! I have two other pieces of Battenkill luggage that work just as well as this one!"
