Nice and warm, February 20, 2010
By: jesseralph

"I purchased this for practical reasons - our new dog has a very thin coat right now and she gets cold outside.

The material is nice and heavy, the fit is great. My only issue is that it is rather difficult to get off, but doable."

Difficult to put on/take off, February 3, 2010
By: Doodles from Charleston, WV

"We bought this fleece warmer in a size large for our deep-chested 45# labradoodle pup. (We ordered a size up based on last year's experience purchasing a fleece warmer for our older labradoodle.) It is NOT the same fleece warmer as last year's -- we had no issues with that one whatsoever.
The current fleece warmer is difficult to put on/take off...there seems to be some issue with the leg openings or something. That said, our pup loves his fleece and we are satisfied with the purchase. If you plan to buy this warmer, be aware that if you have a deep-chested dog, there could be sizing issues."

Bad advice, January 18, 2010
By: Lookout from Huntsville, Alabama

"I talked person-to-person with an Orvis rep, told her I was getting the sweater for my 16-lb Jack Russell. She said I should get a large. It would have fit over two or three dogs her size. Sent it back. Orvis products may be good, but personnel are worse than unhelpful."

DIFFICULT ON/OFF, January 17, 2010
By: Nitebird

"Like all of Orvis' products, this is a very nicely made item. Unfortunately, specially for a deep chested breed like an 85 # Doberman Pincher, it is too hard to get on and off the dog. The fabric doesn't have enough stretch in it."

Hours of enjoyment!, January 12, 2010
By: Suzas from Salt Lake City, Utah

"Bought a large for my 80lb black lab who is fairly stocky. After my husband finally put it on the right way, it fits great! A little tight in the chest area but it's already stretching a little. The XL would have been way too long. Comes half-way up neck and half way down legs. He loves it! Best one I've seen so far!"

nice coat, January 11, 2010
By: Becker

"I needed something warm and simple for my female doberman. I couldn't decided on a size just from reading the reviews and item details, so I ordered a large and an extra-large. The large fits her perfectly. She's an average 65-70 lbs, with the deep chest. I'm absolutely thrilled with this coat. I returned the extra-large size."

Great for cold snaps in Florida, January 10, 2010
By: Winn

"Sleeves are a little long, so I had to cut them shorter, but my dog loves his fleece coat. With our recent cold snap in Florida, this simple piece of fleece has kept my dog comfortable & warm."

not what you see in the picture, January 6, 2010
By: RescueMom from Burr Ridge, IL

"This coat is wonderful in that it covers the chest/belly area and stays on during very active play - unlike coats that are put on using Velcro. The downside is that the picture used in the ad is old. When they redesigned that coat, new pictures should have been taken. The sleeves are only inches long whereas the photo makes it look as though they go pretty far down the leg. That was a disappointment, but the coat wears well, washes beautifully and air dries in a few hours. It is a snug fit, so be sure to get an exact measurement of your dog before choosing a size."

"What I received was not the same as in the picture or the same as others apparently received. The neck & sleeves are considerabley shorter than shown which results in a poor fit. I first ordered too big so had to return for smaller size but since I was not refunded the shipping it has now cost me $68 for something that a) Is not the same as the picture shown & b) fits poorly around the neck. I am included a picture of what I received so you can see the shorter neck & sleeves."

Love it for our Female dogs!, January 4, 2010
By: Debbi from Western NC Mountains

"This is a great dog blanket and we have ordered 20+ since they first started carrying it.

I wish they still made it in the Bright Orange for safety.

The main disadvantage is it is NOT made for male dogs. We have to cut it in the anatomically correct location so that our male dogs can wear it without getting the blanket wet.

Overall we love this blanket, but wish they would bring back the orange and re-design it so that it is male dog friendly."

"This is hands-down the best sweater that I've found yet. It fits my "hard to fit" pointer/great dane mix perfectly. He's deep-chested, with a trim waist and weighs 95 lbs and the XL size fits perfectly. He gets SO happy when it's time to put the sweater on. And I've had it for a couple of years, washed it at least a hundred times, and it has held up and actually still looks really good!"

Awkward fit, December 20, 2009
By: Erin39

"I bought this for my 85 pound Weim and it does not fit him as pictured... the neck does not sit at his neck resulting in it being too long for his torso. It does keep him warm and he seems to like it, but it is not what i expected."

overall great, December 20, 2009
By: sistersgal

"This is a wonderful coat for our weimaraner to keep out the chill - only problem was, it runs small and by the time we got a large enough one to fit his deep chest, it covers up the...uh, private parts so he can't go out and relieve himself with the coat on. Hmm. May have to have our local seamstress cut away part of the stomach part. But - I love it anyway."

"I needed a shirt that would cover all of my dogs stomach and still allow her do go to the bathroom. She had surgery on her stomach and right leg, so she was shaved. We live in snow country and I needed something to keep her warm. This shirt works great. It is easy to wash and dry. I'm buying another one so she will always have one to wear outside in the cold. She is a 65 lb German Shepherd and the XL fits and is easy to put on and off. The shipping was fast."

My dog, Madison, and I love this product!, December 11, 2009
By: Kristin from Washington, DC

"I have been searching for something to keep my flat-coated retriever warm for the winter days ahead. After many failed attempts trying to fit her with a coat from various stores, I am absolutely THRILLED with this product! The fit is perfect and exactly as described in the sizing section. Madison is very good/tolerant when it comes to putting on apparel so this sweater went on without difficulty. If your dog wiggles and squirms you may have a little trouble, but once on, I believe you will feel it is well worth the effort. The fit is snug but not tight and affords her the ability to romp and play without restriction. I only wish I would have bought the pink when I saw it in the sale section. I do hope Orvis will bring out more colors. I definitely will be buying more! And as always, the quality is excellent as I have found with everything I have purchased from Orvis. Thanks for a terrific product! (I suggest also purchasing the dog's nesting cover as I did when I purchased this coat...another excellent item!)"

"I ordered a green sweater for my dog lucy last year, and she loves it. It takes two seconds to put on, and she sits patiently while I do it. She really seems to like wearing the sweater when its cold outside.

Lucy is a fit pit bull mix, and her length measurement is 20', but the large fits her best, so order a size up (we returned the medium). Personally, I like this sweater because it covers the belly, which I think makes it warmer. Plus it doesn't get too stretched out with wear, like some of the cheaper sweaters. I like how Lucy (a gentle pit mix) seems so much more friendly and less threatening when she's wearing a sweater.

Lucy just appreciates being warm in the cold san francisco winter."

"I have a deep-chested, 55 pound pitbull for whom the large is just the right fit, seems it does run small. It is a tad difficult to get a dog's front legs in the sleeves, but my dog loves it so much that she stands patiently and helps slip her legs through. She looks smashing in her red fleece, especially around the holidays. If you have a dog who runs cold, has flexible front limbs, and is tolerant of handling - this is a great product. I am purchasing a new one for another rescued pit-mix."

Does what I got it to do, December 2, 2009
By: truckeelawyer from Truckee, CA

"It's a little tough to get on but once on the size large fit really well on my 85 pound lab and she was pretty stoked when we were camping in 30 degree weather to be snuggled in her fleece "body blanket". She seemed to like it so much she didn't want me to take it off her in the morning (though that may have been because she was still cold!)"

Great for the right dog!, November 24, 2009
By: adogowner

"Yes it runs small and yes it's tricky to put on and take off until you're used to it--but for the right dog it is nearly perfect. The large size fits our smallish female flat-coated retriever to a tee and it warms her up quickly after a cold day afield. It looks good on her, and the fleece is easy to care for and dries quickly. We love it, and our dog seems to love it even more. In fact, we just ordered a second one for a back-up since we hunt her pretty regularly in cold wet weather and we wanted a spare to use when the other is wet.

One word of warning: If your dog isn't well-behaved and won't stand still for you, you probably should get the easy-on version with zippers. But if your dog will stand still for you while you dress her, this simple version without zippers will work just fine--and may even be easier to manage, since you can just slip it on without messing with a zipper."

Confused, October 31, 2009
By: Woofies

"I'm really confused by the poor reviews this item received. I have two 85 pound Weimaraners and the XL fits them great. The sweater is very durable and keeps them warm. On/off is really easy, just like for people; put the dogs head through, then one front leg at a time while they're standing. Off is even easier; just pull it back over their head and down their front legs as far as you can. They'll pull their legs out naturally. I like them better than anything else I've tried, especially ones with velcro."
