Not what I expected,

"First let me tell you that the Orvis Rio Mitre is for all intents and purposes the same jacket at half the price. Second the other reviews were right about the gut. I wear a 50 Reg normally but had to go up in size with the Bandera. But when I got the 52, it had defects in the material that were not expected. Also the thickness of the material while extraordinary is too thick and too heavy for me. The color was way off of the picture when I ordered it. I called Orvis and they changed the picture color. I tried the Rio Mitre. It was even smaller so I am ordering it in a 54. However the feel of the Rio Mitre is the same. The color is just a tad darker almost imperceptibly so but the weight is also a bit lighter and material thinner. It actually holds its shape better than the Bandera. Now the problem. Orvis is having problems with their warehouse and can't seemed to get the thing shipped. Everyone at Orvis has been exceptionally nice but I'm leaving on a trip without the Jacket because of Orvis internal retooling of their warehouse delivery system. Each time I contact them the dates just keeps getting moved back to ship a jacket that was instock when I ordered and instock according to two emails I received from Orvis. It caused me to write this review. Sorry Orvis, you let me down."

"This is my first leather jacket and it took some time to find/select it. Was it worth, well yes but it needed some 'wearing in'..... In certain light conditions the (darker) jacket had a greenish tint, which I have to say was not altogether pleasant, still it is fine well built and robust jacket. Fortunately my youngest daughter raided Mum's lipstick, then planted 'one' on the shoulder of my jacket, and of course it stuck. It needed a clean, expecting the jacket to be half cooked and ruined on return, much to my surprise it arrived minus lipstick and a distinctly richer brown, having lost the greenish tint, It was also more maliable and exactly what I expected out of the box. It became the real deal to my eyes. One negative is the felt lining on the inside button lip is pulling away and will need to snipped out. Other than that would I recommend it, deifinately yes."

"I've had one for about a month, in the lighter colour, I bought it on the web in the sale! Don't expect it to stand up to sheep shearing or abuilding site, but - everything else and it'll do just fine. The comfort level is extraordinary, much more than I had even expected. I wear it for walking the dog, going to the pub, fishing, wandering around town, you name it. The jacket stands up well to moderate rain, I've not been out in a storm yet, it's warm when you want it and not stifling when you wouldn't appreciate it. The pocket system works really well for me. In short - I can't find a downside to it, it is definitely one of the best purchases I've ever made. Don't think about it, just do it."

"On the day after my purchase, I wore the coat on a day trip to Manhattan. One of those perfectly cool, sunny days, blue skies, temps in the low fifties. It was perfect for this weather.
The pockets contained cell phone, sunglass case, train tickets, wallet, maps, and even a 32oz. water bottle in the outside "marsupial" front pockets. A perfect coat for tourism.
The leather is so supple that I began to wonder what species it was -- goat or lamb? A chat with the Orvis online rep confirmed that it was indeed cowhide, which I still can't believe.
And on top of all that, I got it for 60% off at the Orvis Factory Store!"

"Let me make a comment about the sizing of this item. After reading what others had written, I was pretty much in a quandary about what size to get. I’m 5’8” tall, 155 lbs., 33” sleeve length, 40” chest and 32” waist. I wear a 40 suit and sport coat.
Because of some of the postings here, I decided to order this coat in a size 42. It fit great through the shoulders but seemed a little big or baggy through the body of the coat around the waist. If I had been little overweight or had a beer gut, it probably would have been fine. I could easily wear a sweater underneath it; however, I’m not someone who dresses in layers or wears sweaters under my coats. The sleeves were also a little longer than I would have preferred.
I returned it for a size 40 even though I was a little concerned that a 40 might be tight through the shoulders (since the 42 seemed to fit so comfortably through the shoulders) and I’m not someone who likes tight clothing. For me, it was a good choice to return it for a size 40. The sleeves are now the right length and there is enough room through the shoulders—but I probably could not wear a heavy sweater under it without it feeling tight. For me, with a 32” waist, it fits perfect through the body, but I wonder if it might be a little tight around the waist for someone who is overweight.
So I guess my advice would be if you’re lean or don’t intend to wear heavy clothing underneath, get your regular size. If you’ve got a gut or like to dress in layers with sweaters underneath, you might want to consider the next size up."

"I have had my Bandera jacket for two years. I looked at and wished for one for at least a year before buying it. It is heavier than I anticipated but I am very pleased with it. It goes great with chinos or better with jeans and boots. I don't know how many compliments I have gotten on this jacket. I know you hear this a lot these days but this jacket does get better with age and wearing. I know because I wear mine almost daily in the fall, winer and spring."

"LOVE this coat: it's a 'mushroom' color that goes well with brown, black, gray, charcoal, red, navy and light blues, etc: pretty much my whole wardrobe! Impeccably cut, pockets galore, sturdy-weight leather. I got it 1 size larger, based on a previous review: it fits! Do yourself a favor: BUY IT NOW. "This is without a doubt the finest jacket I've owned of this type. When you put it on, it immediately makes you feel like your worth a million bucks !! I use it primarily as a travel jacket during the colder months. It has many pockets strategically positioned to maximize storage of things such as passport, cellphone, boarding pass, etc. The leather quality is outstanding. I have the darker colored jacket. "I've had my 'Bandera' jacket since April and is perfect for those fine but chilly days and has come into its own now that the cooler weather has arrived. It is well made and of heavy construction AND a roomy fit, despite what other reviewers have said. My local store allowed me to try some jackets on for size before ordering the correct size (tall fitting) in that excellent cognac colour, now sadly discontinued. It looks great when worn with my cognac 'roughout' waistcoat ."

"First, about SERVICE: I ordered this jacket last week, and when I opened the box, I had been sent the wrong jacket! I called Orvis's customer support and the representative immediately shipped me the correct jacket overnight, at no cost to me. I then used the prepaid UPS label to return the wrong jacket back to Orvis, also at no charge to me. In spite of the mix-up, I was very pleased with my service.
Now, on to the jacket. I am really pleased with this jacket. The leather is soft and supple, yet rugged enough for everyday use. Also the many pockets inside are versatile and can hold all of my knick-knacks. I do have one small complaint, the picture deceived me, in that the jacket is really more of a leather blazer than an outdoorsman's jacket."
