Great versatile all-around socks., March 14, 2010
By: whackwor

"I bought these socks primarily for travel, and they held up great. Thick, beefy cushioning kept my feet comfortable mile after mile. The natural wool is plush and soft and not at all scratchy. I found I could wear them for several days before washing, as the wool naturally fights odors and bacterial growth.
Although it is primarily the footbed that is cushioned, the socks were quite warm. In fact, I wore them as my only socks when skiing! I suspect the natural wool will be cool enough to wear round, and they did a great job of keeping my feet dry.
The black socks are also quite versatile- look great at work, traveling, or schlepping past the TSA.
One sock has a firm spot in the sole (impossible to see on close inspection) that is somewhat irritating when walking in socks only, but not noticeable with shoes.
Despite this and the price, would definitely buy again."

Comparable to SmartWool, March 13, 2010
By: Pentagron

"These are the first socks that I have been able to find that are nearly as good as SmartWool. SmartWool socks could possibly be just slightly softer and better cut to the foot, so that they fit more like a "glove" and may not slip down as easily. However, it is hard to find SmartWool socks that can be used for business; most places only have sports and hiking styles. You can wear these Invincible Extras with work shoes! They are super comfortable. If you can't find SmartWool, try these -- you won't be disappointed. Note to Orvis: Please offer these in an over-the-calf version so my calves don't show!"

No more holes!, March 12, 2010
By: crabux

"My husband wears out socks so quickly because of heel spurs and the rubbing of sock against the shoe. These socks are the answer; he has been wearing them for a very long time and still no holes in the heels of the socks! Color also stays true after multiple washings. An excellent and smart buy."

Issue with Top Band, March 2, 2010
By: Alexi from San Diego, CA

"My husband has always searched for a sock that would not wear out at the heel, and loved these socks the first couple of times he wore them. Then, he noticed that the band of fabric at the top of the sock, that holds it up, was separating from the rest of the sock- ripping apart. This happened with two pairs within the first few months. He isn't hard on his clothes - and his size is average - no reason the socks should have done this. He commented that he would have to be careful to not pull the socks up from the top, but for a sock of this price point, it seems this shouldn't be an issue. He still wears them, since no one sees the ripped area, but he'll continue his search for his favorite socks."

"These socks are not as good as the same socks I ordered about a year ago. they have a weakened area at the top of the sock where the elastic looks very thin. I doubt they will hold up to the number of washings as advertized.
These new socks are definitely NOT of the same quality as my previous order, and may not be worth the purchase price."

Very Nice!, February 18, 2010
By: car101

"It's hard to get excited about socks, but these are the best I've ever worn. Accuratly sized with a nice toe and heel. They are firm enough to not fall down, but they dont choke your foot at the same time. They also launder very well."

Disappointment, February 4, 2010
By: dooby

"Since Mr.Perkins said they were the best socks ever, I had high expectations, but am sad to report that these socks fell down around my ankles . They are beautifully made, and the blend is luxurious. But they failed in the most important area-wearing them. So, sorry, Mr. P, but thumbs down on this item."

A bit disappointing..., December 24, 2009
By: nwortho from Portland, Oregon

"I've bought dozens of pairs of the 'Invincible' sock, both cotton & wool. I even evaluated the original Invincible wool socks a number of years ago, which I really liked.
But I have to agree with some of the other reviews about premature wear on the Invicible Extra, both at the heel, and especially at the tops, where they tend to rip out relatively easily at the seam an inch or so below the top!
The good news is I toss the torn one & mate its twin with a 'previous survivor', since I have 20+ pairs in my drawer.
The bad news is it happens too often, and I shouldn't have to!
These problems need to be resolved before I'm buying any more of them..."

Socks always stay up, December 14, 2009
By: TarponSlayer

"Feet stay dry and these socks provide great support plus always stay up & in place. They can be a bit snug. If you're close to the top of the size range & prefer a looser fit, you may want to consider going the next larger size range."

Incredible socks!, December 12, 2009
By: Bridalbrains from Spring, Texas

"It won't be an EXCITING Christmas present, but my husband loves these. He is so hard on the heels of his socks and these hold up way past their 'expiration' date! You just can't go wrong buying/wearing them!"

RequestedChristmasRepurchase, December 9, 2009
By: Lavender

"For Christmas two years ago I bought six pair of these extraordinary socks for my husband and this year his Christmas wish was for six more pair. He says they are the best socks he has ever worn, they wear well and stay up. He has neuropathy and they provide a comfortable cushion for his aching feet and is still wearing the older socks - he just wanted new ones for dress as he will wear the older ones with his boots while splitting and stacking wood. I can't thank you enough for your excellent product and for making my husband happy and comfortable. These socks are well worth the price for durability and comfort."

Sorely dissappointed, November 21, 2009
By: Shags

"I loved the thin invicibles and went to these for the winter warmth. This sock fits nice, looks nice, has all the right attributes. Here's the rub After a few wearings the fabric just above the reinforced heel was see through thin. Have been ever since and I've had them 3 years. I'm just waiting for the hole. I wear mine roughly 42 times a year each pair, I own 4 pairs.
If the design flaw were fixed I would buy more. I've been procrastinating this review for over 2 years. Buy with caution."

Prefer Original Invincible Sock, November 10, 2009
By: CMK50

"I have both the orginal invincible and extra socks. The problem with the extra version is that the instep is too tight and has probably skrunk. I have not had that problem with three different pairs of the orignal version. Is it possible to still obtain the orginal invincible sock (which I rate 5 stars)?

Thank You"

Disappointed on second purschased, November 2, 2009
By: Laces from Alaska

"I have purchase these socks before and loved them. The second purchase I couldn't figure out why the socks torn/ ripped at the seams at the band! I ordered more hoping they would be great again. When they arrived, I checked out the tops where the band meets the sock and you can see through the fabric! On all six pairs! Now I know why these sock ripped so fast and didn't last like the first set I purchased! I am really Disappointed as I thought I had found my wool socks for life!"

He's got a pair in white, which they don't make anymore.

"One of my cats, Socks, recently gave me a set of these in Olive Green for my birthday. Now, with a name like Socks you would assume that he knows his stuff, and he really does. These feel good, don't shrink much at all, and they're pretty robust. The other sets that I have in my sock drawer (in Grey and in Charcoal, also gifts from Socks) are older and they're holding up nicely. I wear them all the time. If one day I should find that they come in more colours, I might put those on a future birthday list. They're a little pricey, so I am hoping to get a good number of years out of these. We shall see. Socks has to work pretty hard for the dough to pay for these, but he loves 'em and so do I. Put 'em on your list."

Disappointed, October 14, 2009
By: jdf796

"I purchased an earlier version of these socks some years ago, and they were my favorite ever--I still have several pairs of them; they've held up exceptionally well and are still the most comfortable sock I've ever worn. These new "extras" are overkill--too padded, too thick, you practically need to move up a half shoe size to accommodate their bulk As a result they are also uncomfortably hot. I'm returning those that I haven't already worn for a refund. I'm very disappointed that Orvis felt the need to redesign and reinforce a product that was already perfect. Why not offer both the heavy-duty "extra" verson, and the original regular sock?"

Best value for the money, August 21, 2009

"This is a sock designed intelligently. Extra padding where you need it. Not so heavy that your feet become too warm. In fact, I wear these in the New Mexico summers and they feel just fine. These socks will not disappoint."
