"One of the first products I bought from Orvis, the quality of which encouraged me to purchase other items from their range. These really are very cool (in the original sense of the word) to wear, but have a substantial, durable feel to them. The fit is slightly fuller than with other Polo shirts I own, but not so much that I would consider downsizing.
Another Orvis product I have liked so well that I have bought several in different colours."

Polos are too short!,
September 30, 2009
By:
Leilifrom Birmingham, MI
"My husband is an avid Orvis customer, and used to love the Orvis Polos. But a couple years ago, Orvis made the decision to shorten their polos by 4"! My husband, standing only 6' tall, sadly can no longer wear the Orvis Polos - they won't stay tucked in his pants. Orvis has not responded by offering a "tall version," eventhough we often make this suggestion to the local store and customer service. This is a shame, since the Orvis Polo shirts were the absolute best in the industry."

Still Good Looking After 3 Years,
August 15, 2009
By:
MrPebblesfrom Roanoke, Va
"I ordered a plum colored polo three years ago. Today is laundry day and I was reminded of how awesome this polo is. The color has not faded and the shirt has not lost its shape. I don't have a problem with the shirt; however, a few of my buds have had to return them because they are a little short in the front. I'm 5'10'' and the medium fits me great. So, I don't have any beef with this polo."

Pilling/Blling,
August 12, 2009
By:
William23
"I picked up the red, maroon & 'clover' ones all around the same time. Within 2 washes (air drying then and now), the red & maroon ones started to noticeably pill/ball. The clover one isn't bad.
However, the pilling/balling worsened, and it's at the point where I'd only wear these shirts around the house or for chores like washing the car. It's too bad, bacause I like the cut of the shirt and the sturdy construction (seams, etc), but when they pill up so much, you simply can't wear them in public.
I think for $49, they shouldn't pill so much, if at all."

Perfect Fit,
August 3, 2009
By:
UrbanDwellerfrom Richmond, VA
"Being 5'7", I don't have a problem with the length of this wonderful Orvis Signature Polo. And part of the reason is washing it in cold water and letting it air dry. The color choices are numerous from bright to subdued. I'm ready to buy a few more!"

Great Shirt,
July 29, 2009
By:
GrauGeist
"I just bought 3 of these. They are fantastic. Quality fabric, brilliant colors, and fits great. Length is perfect (I'm 6 feet tall). I know some others have had issues with that but I think it is perfect length for wearing them tucked or untucked. Will definitely buy more."

Great (long) Polo,
July 21, 2009
By:
Jagterfrom Berkshire, UK
"I bought three of these in different colours in Atlanta a few years ago and they're still going strong. As a slave to reading glasses, I appreciate the logo-loop: I often swap my sunglasses into the loop to use my readers and then swap them back. The cut is very long; if you're wearing shorts, it'll cover most of them and tucking it into chinos packs a lot of material inside your trousers. Then again, it'll stay tucked. The gussetted arms are great for casting or shooting where this type of shirt is suitable."

Best casual shirts anywhere,
July 13, 2009
By:

"I have had many of these shirts, and wear them most days to work and elsewhere. Being on the road a fair amount , it's great to wash them and not need to iron them. And they do look great with a sports jacket or blazer. Tough too. I'll be buying more ."

Super Shirts!,
July 6, 2009
By:
spitterfrom Naperville, IL
"Bought a few of these during the recent Orvis promotion 3/2. I especially like the longer tails and the brighter colors are my favorites.
The sunglass loop is really quite useful, although not too shabby a place for Orvis to get a bit of advertising (LOL)!
One other detail I like is the contrasting trim at the collar. Good looks, fit, weight - they've washed well and the even at full price, I think they are a value.
Another good product from Orvis!"

Solid shirt, but big sizes,
June 20, 2009
By:
magichatfrom The Rockies, Colorado
"Great shirt, thick cotton weave. The sizing is much larger than other brands, for example the small is a medium, medium a large etc. Also, the embroidery is on the end of the left sleeve, and well done."

Good garment,
June 17, 2009
By:
wideeyedandleglessfrom UK
"Having read the various reviews I was a bit surprised. I have bought these garments for a while and always found the sizing OK and the fabric appears pretty consistent as well. They are a little short but as I'm 6'3", this is a common problem. The 2XL is in other respects a good fit on the chest and the fabric and garment features are excellent. One thing I would say is that with this type of garment, I always use a cold wash and DONT use a tumble dryer, but dry naturally. The tumble dryer's heat is the main cause of shrinkage, rather than the washing temp. Shouldn't have to do this but this type of knitted fabric always shrinks, irrespective of whatever claim is made about it. The 3 for 2 deal, means that these garments now offer excellent value."

Signature Polo,
June 5, 2009
By:
TooTallfrom Rye, NY
"It is a superb polo. I love, but can't always wear it. It is too short. Why can't you make it in a "long" version as well. As your current "headline" reviewer makes it all too plain, IS too short for "six footers" and beyond."

good - for the most part,
June 4, 2009
By:

"I own several products from Orvis and find them mostly superior in every way. I own several colors of the signature polo. Two have shrunken in the front to a very short length and one has discolored by both under arm areas. The other polos are fine. I am perplexed by the inconsistency."

Keep coming back for more!,
June 4, 2009
By:
Frs001from Montreal, Quebec, Canada
"I bought my first Orvis Polo shirt several years ago. I almost wear them year-around. After many, many , many laundry cycles, they still look like new! Cheaper ones will not retain their original shape, but this one does. I guess that is why I just bought 3 new ones to have more color choice! François from Montreal, Canada"

let down,
June 3, 2009
By:
shirtlessfrom Alabama
"i had read all the previous reviews and had hoped that the problem with the shirt length had been corrected, after receiving the 4 shirts i ordered for the summer i discovered that it had not. when putting on the shirt it barely came to my belt and would not tuck or stay tucked in. i am a loyal Orvis customer and have been very pleased with the products and the service in the past. this product would not have met the cheapest discount stores standards. i do not understand that if a problem like this exists and is prevelent why not stop purchasing from the supplier until the problem is corrected. that would get their attention because obviously the negative feedback has not. either redesign with a longer length or offer in a tall. other comparable retailers do so why can't Orvis? i will continue to purchase from Orvis but without a doubt this shirt will never be purchased again."

short tails,
June 3, 2009
By:
sue2345
"My husband loves this shirt, but has the same complaint that I've read from many other reviews...The shirt tail seems to shrink up when it's washed. And I only wash in cold water. He loves the shirt and wears them to work everyday, but a tall version would be great. He is 6'2'' and need the extra length. Please pass this on and request a tall man version. It's really a great shirt."

Love That Polo,
May 30, 2009
By:
Sharona2
"After reading several reviews, I knew this was the shirt to buy for my husband. He is of average or maybe slightly under average height. When those six foot reviewers said that this shirt was short for them to wear outside, I knew this was the shirt for him. When we buy shirts the tails are always way to long and the sleeves long as well. This is a great fit and the details of the underarm stitching smooth out that normal boxy look."

"Having read Coach Spellman's comments on shirt shrinkage, I would have to recommend he revisit his laundering procedure, as these polos are a remarkable value precisely because they retain their shape long term and do not shrink...unless of course one washes them in HOT water!"
