Bead Head Hare's Ear Nymph

Bead Head Hare's Ear Nymph

The Hare's Ear fly pattern is probably the most productive nymph there is. Its beauty is in its simplicity. The buggy nature of the fly pattern represents any number of insect species and entices fish with its lifelike movement. Adding a bead head only enhances the Hare's Ear fly, getting it down into the feeding zone quickly for longer drifts at the right depth. Excellent for still water fishing and can be used as a dropper pattern in any situation. Color, Natural. Fly available in sizes: 12, 14, 16, 18.

"Try this patten in a size 12 or even 10. Cast it right at the end of the rapids in plunge pools. The fish will take it almost instantly. The larger size definitely draws more fish in. I've even caught fingerling native brookies on the size 10. The fly barely fits into their mouths."

"Especially early in the season when the water is high and fast. Drift this along the bottom and be ready."

"Hare's ear nymphs in all forms are great flies - one tip that use regularly is coloring some of the hare's ear flies with a black sharpie (permanent marker). Sometimes just the top half of the fly or most of the flashy bead-head - I've yet to find a larva that has a gold head... I carry a sharpie with me in my fishing vest and sometimes it's just the right touch."

"Sunfish & trout love this pattern, one of the first nymphs we use to find the fish. Works great as a dropper, have had many double hook ups this way. A must have fly!"

"If you’re just starting out, or an expert, you can't go wrong with this fly. It’s handsome yet attractive pattern to big trout. Thanks Orvis for another great fly."

"An excellent search pattern in small, fast mountain streams. Actually more of an "all round" fly than anything specificfood item. It can be fished to mimick emerging maylies and caddis or just be bounced along the bottom to resemble a scud. One of those patterns that works around the world."
