"I tried to learn to tie flies on the internet. Don't waste your time. The best way to learn fly tying is the Orvis Fly-Tying Guide. Tom Rosenbauer is a true teacher. When I read the step by step instructions it is like he is sitting there at the table with me. Although I am not an experienced tier, I believe this book has something to offer people at all skill levels."

Great Book for a Beginner!,
March 11, 2009
By:
SWANKfrom Hammond, LA
"I started tying in December. My wife bought me a vise for Christmas and this book. After accumulating the rest of the gear necessary, I got started. This book has been a great source of information for me. It has walked me thru the processes necessary to get the hang of my new passion. While I do not believe it to be the end all, it is a great start. Highly recommend!"

Spectacular Guide!,
May 1, 2008
By:

"Got this book along with several others, and was immediately impressed with several things; first, the photography is simply the best I've seen to date; the patterns listed are all useful, and arranged in a very usable order; the instructions have expanded commentary that all tying books should copy! This is an EXCELLENT book for beginning and intermediate tyers! Another gem from Orvis."

"This book is a great book for beginners fly tyers. I had tried several other books and wished that I would have purchased this book first. The other books just show you the techniques on flys you wouldn't normally use where this books has you tie a usefull fly on the first pattern."

for the beginner and the experienced,
October 5, 2007
By:
bamboofrom Virginia
"I bought this book along with a few others when I was getting started tying. I found that it went into good detail to explain techniques, which I found very useful as a newbie. This book was easy enough to follow as a beginner which is hard to pull off with so much information. I also liked the very large selection of flies and recipes from the Orvis catalog. If you can get through this book you can tie nearly any fly."
